Rare World Drop Pets in WoW Classic 1.12.1 — Hyacinth Macaw, Oozeling and Whelplings
Rare world drop pets are the main hunt for collectors in WoW Classic 1.12.1. These non-combat companions drop from ordinary open-world mobs with a very low chance: the Hyacinth Macaw, the Disgusting Oozeling and the tiny whelplings. On the WoW x5 server you level faster and farm more comfortably, but the drop chance itself stays rare.

What these pets are and how they look
Like all WoW Classic companion pets, rare companions are items in your bags. Right-click summons the pet, a second click dismisses it. It does not fight and gives no stats. There is one exception in terms of effects: the oozeling surrounds its owner with an aura and turns them green.

- Hyacinth Macaw — a blue and purple parrot. The cage only binds when used, so it can be sold.
- Disgusting Oozeling — a green blob of slime. While it is summoned, its aura lowers the owner's resistances and defense by 20.
- Whelplings — crimson, dark and emerald baby dragons. The creatures themselves are covered on the dragon whelps page.
How to get rare world drop pets
- Hyacinth Macaw. Go to Stranglethorn Vale and kill Bloodsail pirates on the coast. Players estimate the chance at about one in 10,000 kills, so treat it as a lucky find rather than an evening plan.
- Disgusting Oozeling. Kill oozes, for example in the Swamp of Sorrows, Un'Goro Crater, Winterspring, Silithus and the Ruins of Ahn'Qiraj. They drop the Oozing Bag, which very rarely contains the pet. The bags were added in patch 1.9 and exist in 1.12.1.
- Tiny Crimson Whelpling. Drops from Crimson Whelps (level 25–26) in the Wetlands.
- Dark Whelpling. Hunt the fire whelps in the Badlands and Dustwallow Marsh.
- Tiny Emerald Whelpling. Drops from green whelps in the Swamp of Sorrows near the lair of the dragon Itharius.
- For every whelpling Blizzard quoted a chance of about 1 in 1000. Expect hundreds of kills and loot the gray items — it makes the farm pay for itself.

Sprite Darter Hatchling is not a drop
The Sprite Darter Hatchling is often listed as a rare drop, but in 1.12.1 it comes from an Alliance-only quest chain. It starts with «Freedom for All Creatures» from the night elf Kindal Moonweaver in Feralas: you free the sprite darters from the Grimtotem camp pen. The chain ends with «Becoming a Parent» at Agnar Beastamer in The Hinterlands. You can start it from level 40.

Tips
- Auction house. The macaw, the oozeling and the whelplings only bind when used, so they are bought and sold on the auction house. Buying is often cheaper than farming.
- Dismiss the oozeling before combat. Put it away before raids and PvP: minus 20 to resistances and defense is noticeable.
- No Azure Whelpling. The blue pet from Winterspring only arrived in 2.3.0. If a guide promises it in Vanilla, the guide is wrong.
- The two dungeon pets are quest rewards, not mob drops — see dungeon pets.
