The red dragonflight are the guardians of life itself in Azeroth. They are led by Alexstrasza, the Aspect of Life, whom the titan Eonar empowered with dominion over the life force of the world. Where a red dragon spreads its wings, wounds close and death recedes.
The red flight are not warriors by nature but healers. Their power lies in giving and preserving life, not taking it.
The Aspect of Life
Of all the Dragon Aspects, Alexstrasza is closest to mortals. Red dragons believe every spark of life is sacred, and so they hate the Scourge and all undeath more fiercely than any other flight, for undeath perverts the very essence of being. Their breath does not only burn but can also heal, restoring fallen allies.
The flight keeps apart from worldly wars, intervening only when the very order of life and death is threatened.
Captivity in Grim Batol
A dark chapter of the red flight's history came during the Second War. The Dragonmaw orc clan seized the artifact known as the Demon Soul and used it to enslave Alexstrasza. The captive Life-Binder was held in the fortress of Grim Batol and forced to lay eggs, from which war dragons were bred for the Horde.
Only the freeing of Alexstrasza and the destruction of the Demon Soul restored the flight's freedom — but the red dragons remember the shame of that captivity to this day.
Place among the flights
The red flight is the opposite of the black: life against destruction. Allied with the green and bronze flights, red dragons have more than once fought on the side of Azeroth's defenders against the blue flight and the spawn of the black.
