Against Azeroth's Forces of Darkness stand orders of Light, unions of mages and druids, and two great blocs of peoples — the Alliance and the Horde. This hub is a guide to the organizations of Light and Order, with a detailed breakdown of each. Knowing these powers explains who sends your hero to cleanse the Plaguelands and why raids against the Scourge unite unlikely allies.

Orders of Light

Wielders of the Holy Light band into disciplined orders. The Order of the Silver Hand forged the first paladins, the Argent Dawn wages war on the undead in Lordaeron, and the Church of the Holy Light preserves the very faith that grants them power.

Keepers of Magic and Nature

Not every order rests on the Light. The Kirin Tor is the mage council that rules Dalaran and guards Azeroth from reckless spellcraft. The Cenarion Circle unites druids for nature's balance, and the Earthen Ring gathers shaman who speak with the elements.

Peoples United

Behind the orders stand whole peoples. The Alliance unites humans, dwarves, gnomes and night elves; the Horde binds orcs, tauren, trolls and the Forsaken. In Vanilla they clash on the battlegrounds, yet a fragile truce is possible against a common threat.

Light Against Darkness

All these orders and unions share one enemy: the forces of destruction. Where the Burning Legion brings corruption and the Scourge brings the plague of undeath, the organizations of Light stand as the last barrier. A Silver Hand paladin rises against the undead, a Kirin Tor mage seals demonic portals, a Cenarion druid cleanses poisoned lands, and an Earthen Ring shaman calms the raging elements. No hero fights alone: behind them stand centuries of tradition and whole peoples. Study the Forces of Darkness and the Forces of Light together, and you will see the full picture of the eternal war for Azeroth.

FAQ

Who is stronger, the Alliance or the Horde?

In Vanilla lore the sides are roughly equal: each has its own heroes, armies and holy sites. Balance is the heart of the story, not the supremacy of one faction.

Is the Argent Dawn Alliance or Horde?

Neither. The Argent Dawn is a cross-faction order that accepts heroes of both sides for the shared war against the Scourge in the Plaguelands.

Why should a player care about these orders?

They grant quests, reputation and rewards. Understanding their goals makes grinding Argent Dawn, Cenarion Circle and other reputations meaningful.
