What the Holy Light Is
The Light is a universal force available to anyone who sincerely believes in good. It demands no worship of a deity: the power flows from the soul itself. That is why the Light is a fearsome weapon against the undead and demons, woven from the denial of life.
The Three Virtues
The Church's teaching rests on three virtues that open access to the Light.

The Church in Lordaeron
At humanity's height the Church, led by Archbishop Alonsus Faol and later Benedictus, united the people of the seven kingdoms. It was Faol who founded the Order of the Silver Hand, joining faith to warfare against the Horde.
Faith in Vanilla
In the Vanilla era Stormwind Cathedral is the heart of the Alliance Church. From here priests of the Light go forth, and its teaching inspires paladins and the Argent Dawn. Even the trolls and tauren of the Horde have their own spiritual paths, but the Light remains humanity's bulwark.
The Light and Other Peoples
Though the Church is above all a human institution, faith in the Light is broader than one people. The dwarves and gnomes of the Alliance honor the same virtues, and their priests and paladins draw from the same source. The Horde has its own spiritual paths — the tauren follow the Earth Mother, the trolls worship the loa, the Forsaken wield the shadow — yet the priest's craft is shared. So the Church of the Holy Light remains humanity's cultural core and, at once, a symbol of hope available to anyone who sincerely believes in good, regardless of race or faction.
The Light is not all-powerful: leaning on it without tenacity and compassion degenerates into fanaticism — so fell the Scarlet Crusade.
