Cloth Bolts in WoW Classic: How Much Cloth and Where to Learn
Cloth bolts are the tailor's intermediate material: several pieces of raw cloth are sewn into one bolt, and bolts in turn go into almost every armor piece and bag. In WoW Classic 1.12.1 on the WoW x5 server there are five kinds, from linen to runecloth. Below are the exact cloth costs, required skill, trainers and prices from our game server database.
Contents
◆All five bolts and their cloth cost
Every bolt is made from cloth alone: no thread, dye or loom is needed. You can sew them anywhere — even right at a farming spot to free up bag space.
| Bolt | Cloth per bolt | Tailoring skill | Training cost | Bolt sell price |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Bolt of Linen Cloth | 2 Linen Cloth | 1 | Known from the start | 40c |
| Bolt of Woolen Cloth | 3 Wool Cloth | 75 | 90c | 1s |
| Bolt of Silk Cloth | 4 Silk Cloth | 125 | 4s 50c | 6s |
| Bolt of Mageweave | 5 Mageweave Cloth | 175 | 9s | 12s 50c |
| Bolt of Runecloth | 5 Runecloth | 250 | 1g | 20s |
The higher the tier, the more cloth goes into a bolt — and the more expensive leveling gets. For example, the Robe of the Archmage requires 12 bolts of runecloth, that is 60 pieces, and the Bottomless Bag takes 8 bolts plus 12 Mooncloth. The general recipe order from 1 to 300 is covered in the tailoring leveling guide, and every pattern by tier is listed in the tailoring patterns reference.
Where to learn the bolt recipes
A tailor gets Bolt of Linen Cloth together with the profession. Bolts of wool and silk are taught by almost every tailoring trainer in cities and towns. After that the choice narrows.
- Bolt of Mageweave (skill 175, 9 silver) is taught, according to our server database, by Georgio Bolero in Stormwind, Josef Gregorian in the Undercity and the three masters listed below.
- Bolt of Runecloth (skill 250, 1 gold) is taught only by master tailors: Daryl Stack in Tarren Mill, Hillsbrad Foothills (Horde), Timothy Worthington in Theramore, Dustwallow Marsh (Alliance) and the furbolg Meilosh in Timbermaw Hold, Felwood. Meilosh is neutral but only trains those who have proven their friendship to the Timbermaw — see the Timbermaw Hold reputation guide.

◆What bolts are used for
Tailoring
Bolts are the profession's main reagent. According to our server recipe table the linen bolt appears in about three dozen patterns, wool in roughly thirty as well, silk and mageweave in almost fifty each, and runecloth in nearly eighty. Bolts become:
- Bags: Linen Bag (3 linen bolts and 3 Coarse Thread), Woolen Bag, silk packs, Mageweave Bag (4 bolts and 2 Silken Thread), Runecloth Bag (5 runecloth bolts, 2 Rugged Leather and 1 Rune Thread). All bags are collected in the tailoring bags reference.
- Armor and shirts: from the Simple Kilt to Felcloth, Cindercloth and Mooncloth gear.
- Special items: the Gordok Ogre Suit for Dire Maul requires 2 bolts of runecloth.
Leatherworking
Leatherworkers need bolts too: Fine Leather Pants and Heavy Earthen Gloves take bolts of wool, while Guardian Pants and the Dusky Belt take 2 bolts of silk each. The Gordok Ogre Suit can also be made by leatherworkers. More in the leatherworking section.
◆Does selling bolts pay off
For an NPC vendor there is almost no difference: a bolt is worth exactly what the cloth inside it is worth. A bolt of wool sells for 1 silver against three wool at 33 copper, a bolt of silk for 6 silver against four silk at 1s 50c, a bolt of mageweave for 12s 50c against five pieces at 2s 50c, and a bolt of runecloth for 20 silver against five pieces at 4 silver. Only linen is better vendored as bolts: 40 copper versus 26.
On the auction house the market decides. Bolts are bought by tailors who do not want to sew them or need a quick skill jump, while raw cloth is also wanted by players leveling First Aid and doing reputation donations. So raw cloth is usually easier to sell, and bolts are worth keeping for your own crafts. Compare prices before listing with the auction house guide.
Cloth stacks to 20, bolts stack to 10. A stack of 10 bolts of runecloth replaces 50 pieces, that is two and a half bag slots. Sew bolts right at the farm.

FAQ
?How much runecloth does one bolt take?
Five. In 1.12.1 a Bolt of Runecloth is made from 5 Runecloth with no thread or other reagents. The recipe requires tailoring 250.
?Where do I learn Bolt of Runecloth?
According to our server database three master trainers teach it for 1 gold: Daryl Stack in Tarren Mill, Hillsbrad Foothills for the Horde, Timothy Worthington in Theramore for the Alliance, and the neutral furbolg Meilosh in Timbermaw Hold, Felwood.
?Is it better to vendor cloth or bolts?
For a vendor it makes almost no difference. Bolts of wool, silk, mageweave and runecloth sell to an NPC for exactly the value of the cloth inside. The only exception is linen: a bolt sells for 40 copper, while two pieces of linen sell for 26.
?Do I need a loom or a tool to make bolts?
No. Bolts can be made anywhere, you only need the cloth in your bags. A moonwell is only required for Mooncloth, which has its own cooldown.
