Tailoring Materials in WoW Classic 1.12: Cloth, Bolts, Thread and Silk
Tailoring materials are the cloth, bolts, thread and spider silk used to sew armor, bags and shirts. In WoW Classic 1.12.1 on the WoW x5 server characters level fast, cloth piles up from the very first humanoids, and the surplus goes to bandages, reputation donations and the auction house. Below is a single reference for every material, built on data from our game server database, with links to the detailed articles of this cluster.

◆The seven cloth types of 1.12.1
Cloth is not gathered with a profession: it drops from humanoids (humans, orcs, trolls, gnolls, satyrs and other sentient races) according to their level. Beasts do not drop cloth. The levels below are generalized ranges from our server loot tables where the drop chance is at least 10%.
| Cloth | Source mob levels | Bolt | Key use |
|---|---|---|---|
| Linen Cloth | 5–25 | Bolt of Linen Cloth, 2 each | First patterns, Linen Bag, linen bandages |
| Wool Cloth | 15–30 | Bolt of Woolen Cloth, 3 each | Woolen bags, shirts, wool bandages |
| Silk Cloth | 25–40 | Bolt of Silk Cloth, 4 each | Silk packs, level 30–40 gear, silk bandages |
| Mageweave Cloth | 40–50 | Bolt of Mageweave, 5 each | Mageweave Bag, Dreamweave and Shadoweave |
| Runecloth | 50–60 | Bolt of Runecloth, 5 each | Runecloth Bag, level 60 gear, reputation donations |
| Felcloth | Satyrs and demons 54–62 | None | Mooncloth, Felcloth armor |
| Mooncloth | Does not drop, crafted | None | Mooncloth Bag, Bottomless Bag |
Where exactly and on which mobs cloth is best farmed per level bracket is covered in the cloth farming guide, and dedicated level 60 routes are in runecloth farming.

Bolts: why you make them
Almost every pattern beyond the first levels asks for bolts rather than raw cloth. A tailor knows the linen bolt from the start; the rest are bought from trainers: wool at skill 75, silk at 125, mageweave at 175 and runecloth at 250. Full costs, vendor prices and whether selling bolts pays off are collected in the reference on cloth bolts in WoW Classic.
Felcloth and Mooncloth
The two top cloths of the era are linked. Felcloth drops only from high level satyrs and demons — in Dire Maul, Felwood, Winterspring and the Blasted Lands. From two pieces a tailor with skill 250 sews Mooncloth at a moonwell once every four days; the pattern is sold by Qia in Everlook. Details are in Felcloth: where to farm it and Mooncloth and its cooldown.
◆Tailoring thread and where to buy it
Thread never drops from monsters — tailoring suppliers sell it. Vendor prices are fixed and identical in every city.
| Thread | Vendor price | Used for |
|---|---|---|
| Coarse Thread | 10c | Linen items, Linen Bag |
| Fine Thread | 1s | Woolen and silk items, packs |
| Silken Thread | 5s | Silk and mageweave items |
| Heavy Silken Thread | 20s | Later mageweave items |
| Rune Thread | 50s | Runecloth and mooncloth items and bags |
According to our database the full set of threads is sold by, for example, Alexandra Bolero in Stormwind, Poranna Snowbraid and Outfitter Eric in Ironforge, Elynna in Darnassus, Borya in Orgrimmar, Mahu in Thunder Bluff, Millie Gregorian in the Undercity, Vizzklick in Gadgetzan and Darnall in Moonglade. Leatherworkers shop at the same vendors since they need thread as well.
Rune Thread costs 50 silver, and the Runecloth Bag and Mooncloth Bag each take one. Buy it in advance, before heading out to a farming spot.
◆Spider silk — for tailors and beyond
Spider silk comes from spiders, not humanoids. There are four kinds: Spider's Silk from spiders of roughly level 15–30, Thick Spider's Silk and Shadow Silk from spiders of level 35–60, and Ironweb Spider Silk from spiders of level 45–60. It goes into bag and armor patterns, as well as recipes of other professions. Sources and uses are in the article on spider silk and shadow silk, and the spiders themselves are described in the bestiary entry spiders of Azeroth.

◆What to do with spare cloth
- First Aid. One piece of cloth makes a regular bandage and two make a heavy one; that works for every cloth from linen to runecloth. See the reference on bandages in WoW Classic.
- Reputation donations. Cloth quartermasters in the capitals accept wool, silk, mageweave and runecloth in exchange for reputation — rules and quests are in cloth donation for reputation.
- Auction house. No cloth binds to the character, so surplus can be sold — runecloth and Felcloth above all.

FAQ
?What cloth types exist in WoW Classic 1.12.1?
Seven: Linen Cloth, Wool Cloth, Silk Cloth, Mageweave Cloth, Runecloth, Felcloth and Mooncloth. The first five drop from humanoids as their level rises, Felcloth drops from satyrs and demons of level 54 to 62, and Mooncloth never drops at all: a tailor makes it from Felcloth.
?Where do I buy tailoring thread?
All five threads — Coarse, Fine, Silken, Heavy Silken and Rune Thread — are sold by tailoring suppliers in every capital and many towns, for example Alexandra Bolero in Stormwind, Borya in Orgrimmar and Darnall in Moonglade. Prices are fixed, from 10 copper to 50 silver each.
?Can I sell cloth and Mooncloth on the auction house?
Yes. No cloth in 1.12.1 binds to your character, Felcloth and Mooncloth included. You can mail it to alts and list it on the auction house.
?How much cloth fits into one bag slot?
Raw cloth of every type stacks to 20, while bolts and spider silk stack to 10. That is why bolts of runecloth and mageweave save space: 10 bolts replace 50 pieces of cloth.
