Where to Farm Dark Iron Ore in WoW Classic x5
Vanilla WoW Classic 1.12 · x5 realm · wowx5.ruDark Iron is a special ore that cannot be mined in the open world. It is required for fire resistance sets before Molten Core, so on WoW x5 demand holds ahead of raids. Here is where and how to farm it.
Where It Is Mined
Dark Iron exists only inside Blackrock Depths (BRD) — from Dark Iron Deposits scattered through the instance. This ore is not found outdoors.
Requirements
- Mining 230 for Dark Iron Deposits.
- Level 55-60, ideally a group to clear the path quickly.
- A pick and spare bag space.
How to Farm
Enter BRD and follow the deposits along the route toward the Emperor. Soloing at 60 is possible, but a group is faster and safer. Each run yields stacks of Dark Iron Ore. After gathering, the ore must be smelted.
Dark Iron can only be smelted at the Black Forge inside BRD itself — next to the arena. Regular campfires will not do it. Smelt the ore on the spot so you do not haul it in bulk.
Uses
- Fire resistance sets — essential for a comfortable Molten Core clear (see the resistance gear guide).
- Top blacksmith crafting — Dark Iron weapons and armor (blacksmithing guide).
- Consumables — some recipes require Dark Iron Bars.
Next Steps
- Prepare for the raid: Molten Core attunement and a consumables kit.
- Compare with Thorium farming and Mithril.
- Keep Mining at 300. Register and dive into BRD.
