In patch 1.12.1 tailoring lets you sew bags from 6 to 18 slots, and on the WoW x5 server the faster profession leveling gets you to the top of the line quickly: the Mooncloth Bag and the Bottomless Bag. Below you will find every tailoring bag with its skill, reagents and pattern source.

◆What tailoring bags are and why you need them
In Vanilla every character has a 16-slot backpack and four slots for extra bags, so the size of each bag directly decides how much loot you can carry out of a dungeon. Tailors sew regular bags that hold any item, plus specialty bags for herbs, enchanting materials and soul shards. The specialty options are covered in detail on the pages about profession bags and soul shard bags, while the overview of every bag type lives in the WoW Classic bags hub.
Bags are one of the reasons tailoring stays popular even with characters who do not wear cloth: cloth drops from humanoids you kill anyway, and finished bags always find a buyer.
How to get bag patterns
- Trainer. Five basic bags are learned from tailoring trainers in the capitals: Linen Bag, Woolen Bag, Small Silk Pack, Mageweave Bag and its red variant.
- Vendors. Patterns for the Red Linen Bag and Red Woolen Bag are sold by tailoring supply vendors (some in limited quantity), and Qia in Everlook sells the Pattern: Runecloth Bag for 1 gold 20 silver.
- Drops. Patterns for the Green Woolen Bag, Green and Black Silk Packs, Mooncloth Bag and Bottomless Bag drop from creatures and chests. The last two are rare world drops from high-level enemies.
- Reputation. Specialty herb bag patterns are sold for Cenarion Circle reputation, see the profession bags article for details.

◆The top of the line: Mooncloth and the Bottomless Bag
The Runecloth Bag is the most accessible large bag: the pattern is sold by a vendor, the reagents are cheap, and the cloth drops from any high-level humanoid, as explained in the runecloth farming guide. The Mooncloth Bag already gives 16 slots, but it needs Mooncloth, which tailors create on a long cooldown.
The Bottomless Bag is the largest general-purpose bag in the game. Besides 12 Mooncloth it needs Core Leather, which is skinned from Ancient Core Hounds and Magmadar in the Molten Core raid, so you cannot make it without raid access or the auction house.
The rest of the profession's patterns with their sources are listed in the tailoring patterns reference, and a comparison with bags from other professions and raids is on the biggest bags page.
Tips for tailors
- Sew bags while leveling. Linen, woolen and silk bags give skill points and pay for themselves when sold to new players. The leveling route is in the tailoring guide.
- Watch Qia's stock. The Pattern: Runecloth Bag is sold in limited supply: if it is gone, come back later, it restocks.
- Check the auction house. Mooncloth Bag and Bottomless Bag patterns drop rarely and often end up on the auction house, which is faster than waiting for luck.
- Save on dyes and thread. For a batch of bags, buy thread and dyes in bulk from trade supply vendors.

Tailoring trainers teach the Linen Bag (45), Woolen Bag (80), Small Silk Pack (150), Mageweave Bag (225) and Red Mageweave Bag (235). All other bags require a pattern.
?Can I sell crafted bags on the auction house?
Yes. Regular tailoring bags do not bind, and the Bottomless Bag only binds when equipped, so all of them can be traded. Runecloth and Mooncloth bags are always in demand.
