# Profession Specializations in WoW Classic Vanilla

In WoW Classic 1.12.1 three crafting professions let you choose a specialization — a narrow branch that unlocks exclusive recipes. The right pick directly affects PvP, raiding and gold-making. This guide gathers every specialization in one place.

Which professions have specializations

ProfessionSpecializationsRequirement
EngineeringGnomish / Goblin200 skill, lvl 30
BlacksmithingArmorsmith / Weaponsmith200 skill
LeatherworkingDragonscale / Elemental / Tribal225 skill, lvl 40

Alchemy, Tailoring, First Aid and gathering professions (Mining, Herbalism, Skinning) have no specialization in Vanilla — Alchemy transmute mastery only arrived in TBC.

Engineering: Gnomish vs Goblin

The most-debated choice. Goblin Engineering is about damage: Goblin Sapper Charge, powerful bombs, Goblin Rocket Boots. Ideal for PvP and raids where AoE burst matters.

Gnomish Engineering is about utility: teleporters to Gadgetzan and Everlook, the Battle Chicken, the mind-control cap, cloaking devices. Better for solo play, farming and fun tricks.

Both branches craft guns, scopes, dynamite and universal gadgets like the Mithril Mechanical Dragonling. See the dedicated Gnomish and Goblin guides.

Blacksmithing: Weaponsmith or Armorsmith

At 200 skill a blacksmith picks Weaponsmith (exclusive weapons) or Armorsmith (exclusive plate armor). At 250 skill the Weaponsmith further specializes into swords, axes or maces.

  • Armorsmith — strong plate armor for tanks and warriors. See the Armorsmith guide.
  • Weaponsmith — unique high-level swords, axes and maces. See the Weaponsmith guide.

Leatherworking: three branches

From 225 skill and level 40 a leatherworker chooses one of three schools:

  • Dragonscale — mail armor with agility for hunters and enhancement shamans.
  • Elemental — leather with resistances and caster stats.
  • Tribal — agility leather, including the famous Devilsaur set for warriors and rogues.

How to choose

1. Look at your class and role. A warrior tank benefits from Armorsmith, a feral druid from Tribal, a mage engineer from Gnomish teleports. 2. Consider PvP. Goblin Engineering and its bombs win duels and battlegrounds. 3. Remember it is reversible. Re-specializing costs gold but is always possible.
