Bags in WoW Classic: Inventory, Bank and Every Vanilla Bag Type
Bags in WoW Classic are the easiest quality-of-life upgrade while leveling: more slots mean fewer trips to a vendor and more loot carried out of every dungeon. On the WoW x5 server experience and loot come faster, so your inventory fills up even sooner. This hub covers everything about bags in patch 1.12.1: how the inventory works, which bag types exist and where to get them.

◆How the inventory works in 1.12.1
Every character starts with a 16-slot Backpack. It cannot be replaced, but next to it on the bar sit 4 bag slots. In Vanilla the largest regular bag holds 18 items, so the ceiling for a regular inventory is 16 + 4 × 18 = 88 slots.
The second storage is the bank. It offers 24 item slots right away, plus 6 bag slots that you buy for gold, each one more expensive than the last. All banks of your faction share the same vault: deposit an item in Stormwind and pick it up in Ironforge. Slot prices and what to keep in the bank are covered in the article on bank slots.

Most bags bind when equipped, while rare raid and reputation bags bind when picked up. Some bags are marked Unique, which means you can only carry one of them.
◆Bag types
- Regular bags accept any item, from 4 to 6 slots on the cheapest ones up to 18 on the best.
- Herb bags hold herbs only but are roomier than regular bags: 12 to 24 slots. See profession bags.
- Enchanting bags hold dusts, essences, shards and rods, from 16 to 24 slots.
- Soul bags hold warlock soul shards only, up to 28 slots. Details in soul shard bags.
- Quivers and ammo pouches hold arrows and bullets and add ranged attack speed. We do not cover them separately: everything is in the hunter ammo guide.
There are no mining, gem, engineering or leather bags in 1.12.1 — they arrived in The Burning Crusade. If a Vanilla guide recommends them, it is wrong.
How to get bags
- Vendors. General goods vendors and bag merchants sell the Small Brown Pouch (6 slots) for 5 silver, the Brown Leather Satchel (8) for 25 silver and the Heavy Brown Bag (10) for 2 gold. The Huge Brown Sack (12) costs 10 gold and is sold only by bag vendors in capital cities.
- Tailoring. The main source of bags, from the Linen Bag (6) to the 18-slot Bottomless Bag. The whole line is in tailoring bags and the tailoring guide.
- Leatherworking. Leatherworkers craft the Kodo Hide Bag (6) as well as quivers and ammo pouches for hunters.
- Loot. The Traveler's Backpack (16) drops from level 49 to 61 mobs; smaller bags drop from humanoids and chests.
- Quests and reputation. The Explorer's Knapsack from the Cortello's Riddle chain, the Supply Bag for Argent Dawn insignias, herb bag patterns for Cenarion Circle reputation.
- Auction house. Almost all tailored bags do not bind on purchase, so they are easy to find at the auction house.

Beginner tips
- Up to level 20, vendor bags with 6 to 10 slots are enough: fill all 4 slots, it is cheaper than it looks.
- Your first 10 to 14 slot bags are best bought from tailors at the auction house — they often cost about as much as a vendor bag.
- Do not equip an expensive bag you plan to sell: most bags bind when equipped.
- Put specialized bags where they help most: herb bags on your herbalist, soul bags on warlocks only.
- Free up space with a bank alt — the method is described in the bank alts guide.
- Merge all bags into one window with an addon: see the Bagnon guide and the OneBag and OneBank guide.
