The Bestiary of Azeroth is the dozens of sentient and semi-sentient peoples that inhabit the Eastern Kingdoms and Kalimdor. Beyond the playable races, the world of WoW Classic teems with hostile tribes: murlocs, gnolls, kobolds, harpies, satyrs, quilboar and the mysterious naga. This section is a guide to the most recognizable creatures a player meets from the very first levels on WowX5 x5.

Совет

Many of these creatures are not merely farm mobs but peoples with their own history, tribes and leaders. Knowing their habits helps you plan leveling and quests.

What is the Bestiary of Azeroth

Azeroth is home to more than humans, orcs and elves. The wild lands belong to a host of non-humanoid peoples — from primitive tribes to ancient cursed beings. Some are hostile to all, others war only with certain factions, and still others guard shards of long-forgotten history.

For the player these peoples are a source of quests, loot and experience. But behind each lies its own legend: a fall, a curse or a war rooted in the ancient epochs of Azeroth.

Creatures of the Eastern Kingdoms

In the east, in the lands of Elwynn Forest, Westfall and Loch Modan, a player meets from the first levels:

  • Murlocs — amphibious fish-folk of the coasts and swamps.
  • Gnolls — hyena-like raiders, the bane of farmers.
  • Kobolds — burrowing rat-like miners with a candle on their heads.
  • Troggs — the titans' primitive stone-born creation, kin to the dwarves.

These three peoples are the classic foes of the Alliance starting zones, familiar to every WoW Classic veteran.

Creatures of Kalimdor

The western continent of Kalimdor harbors more ancient and grim beings:

  • Naga — serpentine descendants of the Highborne night elves.
  • Harpies — winged predators of the mountains and steppes.
  • Satyrs — fallen elves who gave in to the Legion's corruption.
  • Quilboar — children of the demigod boar Agamaggan.
  • Centaur — half-human half-horse nomads and foes of the tauren.
  • Ogres — two-headed giants that came from Draenor.
  • Giants — colossi of the elements, children of the titans: mountain, sea, stone and storm.
  • Furbolg — a bear-like people, many tribes maddened by the Fel.
  • Insectoid races — the Ahn'Qiraj swarm: silithid, qiraji and anubisath.

Wild beasts of Azeroth

Beyond the sentient peoples, the wild lands of Azeroth are home to beasts — wolves, bears, cats, raptors and spiders. They are the hunter's prey, the druid's living forms and a source of hide and meat for crafters. See the full guide to the wildlife in the Wild Beasts of Azeroth section.

The sea bestiary of Azeroth

The coasts, swamps and depths of Azeroth have their own dwellers — the crab-like makrura, armored crabs, predatory threshers and toothy crocolisks. The full guide to water creatures is in the sea bestiary of Azeroth section.

Birds of Azeroth

The skies and plains of Azeroth are home to birds — carrion-eating vultures, lightning-fast wind serpents, swift tallstriders and nocturnal bats. Many of them can be tamed by the hunter as pets. See the full guide to the avians in the Birds of Azeroth section.

Great wild creatures of Azeroth

Beyond the sentient peoples and tameable beasts, the wild lands of Azeroth are home to great creatures that cannot be tamed: kodo giants and thunder lizards of the savanna, basilisks with a petrifying gaze, shaggy yeti of the cold mountains, and crawling oozes of the caves. A full guide to them is in the Wild Creatures of Azeroth section.

The bestiary on the WowX5 x5 server

Every creature in this bestiary is part of the living world of WoW Classic. On x5 rates leveling through their lands is faster, but the lore is no poorer for it: understanding who the naga or the satyrs are turns routine farming into a journey through the history of Azeroth.

FAQ

What is the Bestiary of Azeroth in WoW Classic?

It is the whole of the non-humanoid peoples and creatures that inhabit the world: murlocs, gnolls, kobolds, naga, harpies, satyrs, quilboar and more. Each people has its own history and home lands.

Which creatures appear in the starting zones?

In the Alliance zones of the east these are above all murlocs on the coasts, gnolls in the forests and fields, and kobolds in the mines and caves.

How do naga and satyrs differ from ordinary mobs?

Naga and satyrs are cursed descendants of the night elves with a tragic history reaching back to the War of the Ancients, not just rank-and-file enemies.
