Boars are among the first beasts almost every newcomer to Azeroth meets. Tusked swine roam fields and forests from Elwynn Forest to Mulgore and belong to the wild beasts bestiary as the most accessible family for hunters.
A boar is the ideal first hunter pet: it is easy to find near any starting zone, and its Charge ability stuns the enemy right at the start of a fight.
What boars are
Boars are stocky omnivores with thick hides and powerful tusks. They form no intelligent society but travel in small families and fiercely defend their young. Do not confuse them with the quilboar — those are sentient humanoids, while boars are simply wild beasts.
Azeroth hosts several varieties: common forest swine, crag boars of snowy Dun Morogh, diseased plague swine and grizzled old tuskers with imposing tusks.

Boars are the most widespread family in Azeroth, found in nearly every low-level zone of both factions.

The boar as a hunter pet
The boar is a high-endurance pet: it has plenty of health and armor, so it soaks damage well. The family's signature trick is Charge: the pet rushes in and stuns the target, buying the hunter time to open from range.
A boar is not the top damage dealer, but it is reliable and forgiving, which makes it a leveling favorite. For leatherworkers boars yield light and medium leather, and for cooks their meat becomes some of the first buff foods.
