The Argent Dawn is a cross-faction order whose sole purpose is the destruction of the Scourge. When the Order of the Silver Hand shattered, its finest knights wanted neither the Scarlet Crusade's fanaticism nor idleness — and founded the Dawn. In Vanilla it is a key source of reputation in the Plaguelands.
Born of the Schism
After the Third War the paladins and priests of Lordaeron split. Some joined the fanatical Scarlet Crusade, which saw enemies even in the living. Those who rejected that madness, led by Maxwell Tyrosus, founded the Argent Dawn — an order that strikes only at the undead but accepts heroes of both sides.
War in the Plaguelands
The Dawn's chief front is the Eastern and Western Plaguelands, poisoned by the plague of undeath. From here the order raids toward Naxxramas, the floating citadel of Kel'Thuzad.

Reputation and Rewards
In the Vanilla era the Argent Dawn is an important reputation faction. Players turn in Argent Dawn Tokens and undead essences for enchants, rings and anti-undead consumables. Reputation with the Dawn is required for the trek into Naxxramas.
Cross-Faction Unity
The Dawn's uniqueness is that against the Scourge it unites the Alliance and the Horde. Here a Stormwind paladin and an Orgrimmar shaman fight side by side — a rare example of unity in a divided Azeroth.

That is why beneath the order's banners a hero of the Alliance and a hero of the Horde cease, for once, to be foes. In Vanilla this arc peaks at the walls of Naxxramas, where a raid of both factions defies Kel'Thuzad.
