Anasterian Sunstrider: the last king of Quel'Thalas

◆Heir of the dynasty

Anasterian ruled the high elves for centuries as head of the Sunstrider dynasty. In his hands was the runeblade Felo'melorn — 'Flame of Doom' — the family heirloom of the kings of Quel'Thalas.

◆The Second War

When the Horde invaded the Eastern Kingdoms, Anasterian led the high elves to aid the Alliance of Lordaeron. Elven rangers and mages were key to repelling the orcish onslaught.

◆Rift with the humans

After the war relations soured: humans logged and burned the border forests, and the insulted Anasterian withdrew most elven support from the Alliance. That estrangement would later cost Quel'Thalas dearly.

◆Death at Arthas's hand

In the Third War Arthas led the Scourge to Silvermoon. The aged king rode out to fight in person but fell — Felo'melorn was broken and the Sunwell defiled.

◆Legacy

With Anasterian's death the line of high elf kings ended. His son Kael'thas led the surviving sin'dorei. Felo'melorn was later reforged — but that is a tale beyond the Vanilla era.

◆Why this matters

Anasterian's fate is key to understanding why high elves are so few in the Vanilla Alliance and why the Scourge is their sworn enemy.
