Aegwynn: Guardian of Tirisfal
Aegwynn was the legendary Guardian of Tirisfal, bearer of the greatest magical power of her age, who defeated the avatar of Sargeras and became the mother of Medivh.

◆The order of Guardians
The Council of Tirisfal — a secret assembly of the mightiest mages — concentrated all their power in a single chosen one, the Guardian, to defend Azeroth from the Burning Legion in secret. Aegwynn bore that burden for nearly eight hundred years.
◆Battle with Sargeras
In Northrend Aegwynn struck down the avatar of the fallen titan Sargeras, who had come to destroy her. It was the peak of her power — but also a fatal mistake: Sargeras's spirit hid within her body.
◆A wilful Guardian
Aegwynn increasingly acted against the will of the Council of Tirisfal, certain she was right. When the Council sought to strip her of power and pass it to another, she refused and vanished, secretly choosing a successor herself.
◆Birth of Medivh
Aegwynn passed the Guardian's power to her unborn son Medivh, fathered by the mage Nielas Aran. Along with the power, the hidden spirit of Sargeras passed into the child — the seed of a future catastrophe.
Legacy in Vanilla lore
It was the corruption dormant within Medivh that later opened the Dark Portal and let the orcish Horde into Azeroth. So Aegwynn's choice echoed through all of Warcraft history, down to the Vanilla era.
