Dath'Remar Sunstrider: founder of Quel'Thalas

◆The rebel Highborne

After the War of the Ancients Malfurion banned arcane magic on pain of exile. Dath'Remar openly defied the ban: he would not renounce the art that had defined Highborne culture for millennia.

◆Exile across the sea

With hundreds of like-minded followers, Dath'Remar left Kalimdor and led a fleet east across the Great Sea into the uncharted Eastern Kingdoms in search of a new home.

◆Founding Quel'Thalas

In the far northeast the exiles founded the kingdom of Quel'Thalas and built the capital Silvermoon. From a carefully preserved vial of the Well of Eternity, Dath'Remar created the Sunwell.

◆The name Sunstrider

Because he 'walked in the light of day', unafraid of the sun unlike the night elves, Dath'Remar earned the family name Sunstrider. So began the royal dynasty of Quel'Thalas.

◆A dynasty's legacy

Dath'Remar's descendants ruled the high elves for thousands of years, down to the last king, Anasterian. His line shaped the entire destiny of the quel'dorei.

◆Why this matters

The whole history of the high elves begins with Dath'Remar: their split from the night elves, their love of magic and the creation of the Sunwell.
