Neltharion was one of the five dragon Aspects whom the titans charged to guard Azeroth. As the Keeper of Earth he embodied the steadfastness of stone and defended the depths of the world.
Whisper of the Old Gods
From their underground prisons the Old Gods poisoned Neltharion's mind with their whispers. Paranoia and hatred burned him from within, turning the Keeper of Earth into Deathwing — the Aspect of Death.
Betrayal of the Aspects
In the War of the Ancients Deathwing betrayed the other Aspects, turning the Dragon Soul against them — an artifact that nearly destroyed his own kind. Since then his body is held together by elementium plates hammered into his flesh.
The black dragonflight
Deathwing sired the black flight — dragons of corruption and intrigue. His children Onyxia and Nefarian plot against the mortal kingdoms, which leads them straight to Vanilla players.
