The gift of the Pantheon
As the titans ordered the world, they elevated five dragons, entrusting each with a sphere. So were born the Aspects — wardens of life, magic, nature, time and earth.

The betrayal of the black flight
The dragons' tragedy is the fall of Neltharion, the Earth-Warder. The whisper of the Old Gods drove him mad: he became Deathwing the Destroyer and turned his might against the other flights. It is the black flight that spawns the dragon villains of Vanilla.
Dragons in the Vanilla era
In classic the player mostly faces the offspring of Deathwing:
- Onyxia — Deathwing's daughter, a schemer who, disguised as Lady Prestor, manipulated Stormwind.
