Terenas Menethil II: king of Lordaeron

◆Founding the Alliance

When refugees from fallen Stormwind led by Anduin Lothar arrived in the north after the First War, Terenas summoned the kings of the seven human nations. Thus the Alliance of Lordaeron was born, with Lothar as its supreme commander.

◆The Second War

In the Second War the Alliance, uniting humans, dwarves and high elves, crushed the Horde. Terenas sheltered young Prince Varian and helped rebuild Stormwind. Lordaeron became the heart of the human world.

◆Camps and schism

Terenas held the captured orcs in internment camps and taxed his allies to pay for them. Discontented Gilneas and Stromgarde left the Alliance, and it began to fall apart before the next threat arrived.

◆Slain by his son

In the Third War Arthas returned from Northrend bearing the runeblade Frostmourne. The people of the Capital City celebrated the prince's homecoming, but in the throne room Arthas drove the blade into his father. Soon Lordaeron fell to the Scourge.

◆Lordaeron in WoW Classic

The ruins of Terenas's palace stand above Undercity in Tirisfal Glades. Horde players walk through the ruined throne room every time they descend into the Forsaken capital.

◆Why it matters

The death of Terenas is the point where the history of Lordaeron's humans ends and the story of the Forsaken begins. Without it neither Undercity nor the Plaguelands make sense.
