The Second War was the greatest conflict between the Horde and humanity, engulfing the whole continent of Lordaeron. It was here that the legendary Alliance was born — the union of peoples that opposes the Horde to this day in WoW Classic.
Many Vanilla dungeons and raids are a direct echo of this war. Blackrock Spire, where Lothar fell, still teems with the orcs of the Blackrock clan.
The Horde reborn and a new warchief
After the First War the Horde was taken over by the cunning and ambitious Orgrim Doomhammer, who overthrew the Legion's puppet Blackhand. He led the orcs north toward the heart of the human lands — the kingdom of Lordaeron. The Amani forest trolls, ogres and goblins joined the Horde.
The forging of the Alliance
Warned by the fugitive Anduin Lothar, the kings of men understood: alone they could not stand. So the Alliance of Lordaeron arose:

Dragons in chains and the fall of the elves
To turn the tide, the Horde took a monstrous step: using the Demon Soul the orcs enslaved Alexstrasza and the red dragons and threw them into battle. The burning dragons scorched part of Quel'Thalas, leaving the elves with an eternal hatred of the Horde. But it was not enough to win the war.
The Alliance's victory and the orc camps
The decisive battle unfolded at Blackrock Spire, where Anduin Lothar died heroically. His cause was finished by the paladin Turalyon, who broke the Horde. The mage Khadgar destroyed the Dark Portal, cutting the orcs off from Draenor. Orgrim Doomhammer was captured, and the broken orcs were confined in internment camps — where, years later, Thrall, the future liberator of his people, would grow up.
