What is the Scourge
The Scourge is an army of undead created by the Burning Legion as an advance force to destroy life on Azeroth. Kil'jaeden bound the soul of the orc shaman Ner'zhul into an icy artifact, giving rise to the Lich King — supreme master of all undead.
The Scourge spreads through the plague of undeath: those infected by it die and rise as corpses. Thus Lordaeron fell in mere days, and its prince Arthas himself became a tool of the Lich King.
