Ultrasafe Transporter: Gadgetzan — Gnomish Teleport Trinket

Section: Lore & bestiary 5 min read Vanilla 1.12.1 · x5 Updated 24.10.2026

Ultrasafe Transporter: Gadgetzan is a gnomish engineering trinket that sends its owner to the goblin town of Gadgetzan in Tanaris once every 4 hours. On the WoW x5 server it is one of the handiest devices for farming Tanaris, Zul'Farrak and nearby zones, but only Gnomish Engineers can build and use it.

What the device is and how it works

The transporter is an uncommon trinket that binds when used. To activate it you must equip it in a trinket slot and use it. The cast takes 10 seconds, after which your character lands on the pad near Gadgetzan. It requires 260 Engineering and the Gnomish Engineer specialization, so only gnomish engineers themselves can wear it. For details on choosing a branch, see our Gnomish Engineering guide.

The transporter does not share a cooldown with the Hearthstone, so together they give you two independent teleports. The general logic of travel is covered in the help page on the Hearthstone and travel.

How to make the transporter

  1. Raise Engineering to at least 260 — the route is in our Engineering 1–300 leveling guide.
  2. After skill 200, take the Gnomish Engineer specialization. Gnomish masters are Tinkmaster Overspark in Ironforge and Oglethorpe Obnoticus in Booty Bay.
  3. Travel to Gadgetzan and find the gnome Jhordy Lapforge (Engineer) next to his teleport pad.
  4. Pick the dialogue option about building a beacon for his device — the schematic is learned instantly and for free. Goblin Engineers do not get this option.
  5. Gather the reagents and tools, then craft the item.

Crafting requires the Blacksmith Hammer and the Arclight Spanner as tools.

The Truesilver Transformer and Inlaid Mithril Cylinder are engineering components you craft yourself; everything else can be bought on the Auction House or gathered. The full list of the profession's blueprints is in our engineering schematics catalogue.

Gadgetzan is a neutral Steamwheedle Cartel town with flight masters for both factions, an auction house and a bank. From here it is easy to head into the Zul'Farrak dungeon or fly on to Un'Goro Crater and Silithus. For the zone itself, see our article on Tanaris. Typical scenarios:

  • farming Tanaris and Zul'Farrak without a long flight from another continent;
  • quick access to the neutral auction house and southern Kalimdor flight paths;
  • a second free teleport while your Hearthstone is on cooldown.

Pitfalls: how ultrasafe is it really

The name is gnomish irony: Jhordy himself admits in dialogue that some travellers do not arrive quite the way they left. According to player reports (Wowpedia), the device has these malfunctions:

  • Evil twin — a harmless 2-hour effect that gives your character an angry face.
  • Brief transformation — for a few seconds you are in the form of another creature and cannot act.
  • Missing vertically — you appear in mid-air near Gadgetzan and fall from a height.

To be safe against a vertical miss, carry a Parachute Cloak, a slow fall effect or a similar class ability.

Совет

Do not activate the transporter in combat: the 10-second cast is easily interrupted by damage. Step to a safe spot first, then use the device.

Gnomes or goblins: transporter versus ripper

Goblin Engineers have their own counterpart — the Dimensional Ripper - Everlook, which leads to Everlook in Winterspring. Both devices require skill 260 and have a 4-hour cooldown, but you can only get one, depending on your specialization. The transporter is better for farming southern Kalimdor, the ripper for Winterspring and northern reputations. A comparison of all engineering utilities is in our engineering utility gadgets hub.

Tips

  • Keep the transporter in your bags and equip it only before the jump so it does not take a trinket slot in combat.
  • Combine it with the Hearthstone: arrive in Gadgetzan, finish your business, hearth home.
  • If you need quick repairs in the field, look at the Field Repair Bot 74A.

FAQ

Who can make the Ultrasafe Transporter: Gadgetzan?

Only an engineer with the Gnomish Engineer specialization and 260 Engineering skill. Jhordy Lapforge in Gadgetzan teaches the schematic for free through dialogue.

What is the cooldown of the Gadgetzan transporter?

4 hours. The teleport itself takes 10 seconds to cast, and taking damage or moving will interrupt it.

Does the transporter share a cooldown with the Hearthstone?

No. The Hearthstone and the transporter are independent, so you can jump to Gadgetzan and then hearth back to your inn right away.

Can the transporter malfunction?

Yes. Despite the name, it has known malfunctions: a brief transformation into another creature, arriving in mid-air near the town and the evil twin effect. Keep a Parachute Cloak or a slow fall ability handy.
