Field Repair Bot 74A: schematic, reagents and raid use

Section: Lore & bestiary 4 min read Vanilla 1.12.1 · x5 Updated 24.10.2026

Field Repair Bot 74A is the most useful engineering gadget for Vanilla 1.12.1 raids: within seconds it unfolds into a portable merchant that repairs gear and buys junk right in the middle of a dungeon. On WoW x5 the bot saves your raid long runs back to a blacksmith after wipes.

What the Field Repair Bot does

According to the tooltip the item requires Engineering 300. On use it unfolds into a Field Repair Bot that buys unwanted goods and can repair damaged items. After 10 minutes its internal motor fails and the bot disappears. The item itself is consumed, so every summon needs a new bot.

The bot behaves like a normal merchant with a repair option: anyone nearby can use it, not just the engineer. It also sells minor crafting supplies: Weak Flux, Strong Flux, Rough Blasting Powder, Coarse Blasting Powder, Wooden Stock, Heavy Stock, Blacksmith Hammer, Mining Pick, Engineer's Ink and Blank Parchment. How item durability is lost is explained in the help article on durability and repair.

How to make the Field Repair Bot

  1. Level Engineering to 300 — the recipe order is covered in the engineering leveling guide. No Gnomish or Goblin specialization is needed.
  2. Head into Blackrock Depths and reach the Manufactory — the Dark Iron dwarf workshops.
  3. Find the blueprint called Schematic: Field Repair Bot 74A. It is a world object, not an item, so it cannot be put into your bags.
  4. Click the blueprint and choose to copy the schematic into your engineering notebook — the recipe is learned.
  5. Gather the reagents, keep a Blacksmith Hammer and an Arclight Spanner in your bags and craft the bot.

Field Repair Bot reagents

ReagentAmountSource
Thorium Bar12smelted from thorium ore
Rugged Leather4skinning high-level beasts
Fused Wiring1engineering supply vendors
Elemental Earth2drops from earth elementals
Elemental Fire1drops from fire elementals

The most expensive part is the 12 thorium bars. If you have Mining, check the thorium ore farming guide.

Use in raids and dungeons

The bot's main value is repairing without leaving the instance. After a few wipes on a hard boss armor durability drops, and the run to the nearest blacksmith and back costs the raid a lot of time. One bot placed at the entrance or on a cleared platform repairs the whole raid and also takes grey loot, freeing bag space.

The bot is especially handy in Molten Core and other raids where the trip to a vendor takes many minutes. Add a few to the consumables list from the raid preparation help article.

Pitfalls and tips

  • The bot lives exactly 10 minutes — drop it when everyone is ready to repair, not at the start of a clear.
  • Repairs at the bot cost gold just like at a normal vendor: each player pays for their own gear.
  • The blueprint can only be learned at skill 300. Below that you only see incomprehensible technical mumbo jumbo.
  • The bot is a normal item, so it can be traded or sold: one engineer can easily keep a whole guild supplied with repairs.
Совет

Keep two or three bots and a set of Goblin Jumper Cables in your raid bag — together they noticeably cut downtime after a failed attempt.
