Dense Dynamite in Vanilla 1.12.1: Engineering Explosive Guide

Section: Lore & bestiary 4 min read Vanilla 1.12.1 · x5 Updated 23.10.2026

Dense Dynamite is the strongest dynamite an engineer can make in WoW Classic 1.12.1: it deals area Fire damage, needs no schematic drop and is crafted from cheap level 60 materials. This reference covers the exact tooltip effect, the recipe, its place in the dynamite line and practical tips for the WoW x5 server, where ore and Runecloth come in several times faster.

What Dense Dynamite does

It is a consumable explosive the engineer throws at a chosen spot. The 1.12.1 tooltip reads: inflicts 340 to 460 Fire damage in a 5 yard radius, with a 1 minute cooldown. The dynamite does not stun or slow — it is pure area damage. It stacks to 20 and does not bind, so surplus sticks can be sold to other engineers on the Auction House.

One important restriction: the requirement line says Engineering (250). A character without the profession, or with skill below 250, cannot use it — which is exactly why lighter versions for non-engineers exist, covered below.

How to make Dense Dynamite

  1. Skill 250. The recipe unlocks at Engineering 250 and is taught by a profession trainer; no drop schematic is required. The leveling order up to that point is covered in the Engineering 1–300 guide.
  2. Dense Blasting Powder. The engineer crafts it from 2 Dense Stone; the recipe is also learned at skill 250 from a trainer.
  3. Runecloth. Each craft takes 3 pieces — it drops from humanoids of levels 50–60, see the Runecloth farming guide for routes.
  4. Crafting. 2 Dense Blasting Powder + 3 Runecloth, 8 second cast, yields 2 sticks of dynamite.

Dense Stone comes from mining thorium veins, so dynamite is easy to make alongside thorium ore farming.

All numbers come from item and recipe tooltips. Every dynamite shares the same 5 yard radius and 1 minute cooldown; only the damage grows.

For characters without Engineering there are Ez-Thro Dynamite (level 10, 51–69 damage) and Ez-Thro Dynamite II (level 30, 213–287 damage). Engineers craft them too, but anyone of the required level can throw them.

Use in PvE and PvP

  • Dungeons. Dynamite hits every enemy within 5 yards, so it works best on a tight pack that the tank has gathered in one spot. Area Fire damage breaks Polymorph, Sap and other crowd control effects that end on damage — do not throw it next to a controlled target.
  • Battlegrounds. In PvP dynamite is a finisher: 340–460 damage to several players at a flag or a node. It has no stun, so for control engineers bring a Thorium Grenade or an Iron Grenade.
  • Combining explosives. In a hard fight dynamite complements pricier charges: the Goblin Sapper Charge hits harder but also hurts the engineer, while the Arcane Bomb is built against spellcasters.

Tips

  • Carry a stack of dynamite next to your grenades: each tooltip lists its own cooldown, and in a calm fight dynamite is the cheapest way to add area damage.
  • Stone and cloth are cheap, so dynamite is a decent way to push skill around 250 until the recipe turns grey.
  • To compare dynamite with every bomb, the mortar and other devices, see the overview of engineering combat gadgets.
Совет

Throw the dynamite into the middle of a pack rather than at the first target: the 5 yard radius is measured from the blast point, and mobs on the edge of the group easily end up outside it.
