Dragonkin is the whole family of draconic creatures in Azeroth, serving the five dragonflights. The word covers both the winged serpents at every growth stage and the upright humanoid servants the flights breed with their magic. Knowing who is who makes any "dragon" dungeon or raid easy to read.

Branches of the dragon kind
True dragons grow through three stages. Tiny whelps barely reach a human's knee and swarm near nests. Grown drakes are already deadly and guard the lairs. Adult dragons are the peak of the kind, their power rivalling the Dragon Aspects.
A separate branch is the humanoids. Dragonspawn are serpent-bodied fighters with spears and shields, the backbone of dragon armies. Wyrmkin are winged upright mages and guardians whose blood runs closest to a true dragon's.
Dragonkin and the five flights
A dragonkin's scale color reveals its flight. Reds serve Alexstrasza and guard life; blacks follow the traitor Neltharion. Players clash most with the black dragonflight, whose brood floods Blackrock Spire and Blackwing Lair.
