Each Aspect leads a flight and holds dominion over a fundamental force.
Gift of the Pantheon
After defeating the maddened Galakrond, the Pantheon chose five dragons and shared their powers. Thus the Aspects were born: Alexstrasza — life, Ysera — dream and nature, Nozdormu — time, Malygos — magic and Neltharion — earth.
The Five Flights
The red flight guards life itself, the green is bound to the Emerald Dream, the bronze watches the timeways, the blue keeps the secrets of arcane magic, and the black once warded the deep places of the earth. Together they held Azeroth in balance for ages.
Neltharion's Betrayal
During the War of the Ancients, Neltharion, driven mad by the whispers of the Old Gods, forged the Dragon Soul and turned it on his kin. He became Deathwing the Destroyer, and the black flight became the enemy of all life.
Legacy in Vanilla
In WoW Classic the Aspects' legacy is everywhere. Deathwing's black flight fields Onyxia and Nefarian in Blackwing Lair. The green flight spawned the Dragons of Nightmare, and the blue produced the world boss Azuregos.
Meaning for Azeroth
Even after millennia the Aspects' influence remains a pillar of the world's history. Their alliances and rifts shaped the fate of nations, and their fallen kin became some of the most fearsome foes heroes ever face. To understand the five flights is to understand half of Warcraft's lore.
