Demigods and Ancients of Azeroth
Vanilla WoW Classic 1.12 · x5 realm · wowx5.ruThe Ancients (the Wild Gods) are mighty nature spirits and demigods of Azeroth, worshipped since time immemorial by the night elves. It is from the Ancients that druids received their animal forms, and much of the living magic of Kalimdor still rests on their legacy. This section gathers the greatest of them — from the forest demigod Cenarius to Omen, who slumbers at the bottom of a lake.
Who the Ancients are
The Ancients are not creator gods but the embodied spirits of the wild: forest, beast, storm and the hunt. The night elves revered them alongside the moon goddess Elune, and after the Sundering many Ancients withdrew into the Emerald Dream — a mirror realm of untouched nature guarded by the green dragonflight. Mortals rarely saw a Wild God in the flesh, yet their power flows through every druidic spell.
Father and son: Malorne and Cenarius
The forebear of the Ancients' line was Malorne the White Stag, consort of Elune. Their son Cenarius, half-man and half-stag, became the patron of druids and the first teacher of Malfurion. It was Cenarius who taught the night elves to listen to the land and draw power from Moonglade, the heart of all druidism.
The animal forms of druids
Each druid form is the gift of a specific Ancient. Bear-might came from the brother bears Ursoc and Ursol, the swiftness of the pack from the wolf Goldrinn, and the wings of the wandering raven from Aviana, patron of birds. When a druid shifts into a beast, they briefly join with the spirit of that very Wild God.
The fallen of the War of the Ancients
Not all Wild Gods survived the War of the Ancients. The colossal boar Agamaggan fell defending Azeroth from the Burning Legion, and from his blood rose the thorny thickets of Razorfen. The maddened Omen sank into slumber beneath a lake in Moonglade, disturbed only once a year.
Why it matters in Vanilla
The Ancients' legacy surrounds you at every step in WoW Classic. The Cenarion Circle fights corruption in Felwood and Silithus, the quilboar of Razorfen pray to the fallen Agamaggan, and during the Lunar Festival heroes from across Azeroth gather in Moonglade to lay Omen to rest. Knowing Wild God lore, you see your druid's bear form and Kalimdor's ancient shrines in a new light.
