Owls are silent night hunters of the night elf forests. Their home is the tree-city Teldrassil and the dusky Darkshore, where they belong to the wild beasts bestiary as an elegant bird family of hunter pets.
The owl is a fast bird pet with high damage: its Screech ability lowers the enemy's attack speed, useful both when farming and in PvP.
What owls are
Owls are large feathered predators with keen sight and silent flight. In Azeroth they are especially numerous in the lands of the night elves, where they are seen as a good omen and companions of the servants of Cenarius.
Do not confuse ordinary owls with wildkin (owlbeasts) — those are kin to the wild gods and far larger; true owls remain ordinary beasts a hunter can tame.

Owls dwell mostly in the forests of Kalimdor tied to the night elves.

The owl as a hunter pet
The owl belongs to the bird family with high damage and fast attack speed. Its key ability is Screech: the pet lets out a piercing cry that lowers the target's attack speed. That reduces incoming damage and is handy in both PvE farming and PvP skirmishes.
Birds like the owl deal a bit more damage than tanky pets but soak far less — they are taken for DPS and the useful debuff, not for tanking. The owl's striking model also makes it one of the most aesthetic hunter pets.
