Nexus Crystal in WoW Classic: Sources, Recipes and Value

The Nexus Crystal is an epic enchanting reagent obtained by disenchanting epic items. Russian players often call it the Nexus or Void crystal, while the Russian 1.12.1 client names it «Кристалл-источник». On the WoW x5 server every disenchanted purple item turns into a valuable reagent for the best Ahn'Qiraj enchants.

What the Nexus Crystal is

It is an epic (purple) trade good, item level 60, stacking to 20. The crystal was introduced in patch 1.9 together with Ahn'Qiraj: before that, epics disenchanted into several Large Brilliant Shards, afterwards into a Nexus Crystal. The powerful new formulas of the same patch are exactly what these crystals are for.

The crystal sits at the top of the enchanting reagent pyramid: below it are the Large Brilliant Shard from blue items and Illusion Dust from greens. For the full picture see the valuable crafting materials reference.

How to get Nexus Crystals

  1. Disenchanting epics. An enchanter casts Disenchant on a purple weapon or armor piece of item level 56 or higher — the crystal is guaranteed.
  2. Disenchanting high-level blues. Rare items of item level 66 and higher (Zul'Gurub and Ahn'Qiraj loot) have a small chance to give a crystal instead of a shard.
  3. Raid loot. Epics nobody in the raid needs are usually handed to the guild enchanter for disenchanting — the main source of crystals.
  4. Auction house. Buy crystals from other players if you have no enchanter of your own.

Uses and key recipes

In 1.12.1 the crystal is used in ten Ahn'Qiraj era enchanting formulas. All of them require a Runed Arcanite Rod, and the second reagent is the Large Brilliant Shard.

Blacksmithing. The Sageblade requires 12 Arcanite Bars, 2 Nexus Crystals, 2 Flasks of Supreme Power and 4 Enchanted Leather.

Naxxramas. Archmage Angela Dosantos asks for 2 Nexus Crystals for the attunement at Honored with the Argent Dawn, or 1 at Revered. Crystals are also part of the quests for breastplates, helmets, bracers and other T3 pieces from the artisans of Light's Hope Chapel — see the Naxxramas attunement guide.

Economy tips

  • The Nexus Crystal is the most expensive enchanting reagent of Vanilla, so epics are almost never vendored: disenchanting is worth more.
  • Guilds usually agree in advance who disenchants spare epics and where the crystals go — typically glove and cloak enchants for the raid roster.
  • Demand jumps when Ahn'Qiraj and Naxxramas open; before that, crystals are worth stockpiling.
  • Disenchant Zul'Gurub and Ahn'Qiraj blues yourself: the crystal chance is small, but free.

Check the item level before disenchanting, not the required level: an epic that requires level 51 can have item level 56 and still give a crystal.

How do I get a Nexus Crystal in WoW Classic?

Nexus Crystals come from disenchanting epic (purple) items of item level 56 and higher. Epics of item level 56-60 give 1 crystal, higher ones give 1-2. Rare items of item level 66 and higher have only about a 0.5% chance to give one.

What is the Nexus Crystal called in the Russian client?

In the Russian client it is called «Кристалл-источник». Russian players also call it the Nexus crystal or the Void crystal, but these are informal translations of the same reagent.

Which enchants need Nexus Crystals?

In 1.12.1 they are used in ten Ahn'Qiraj era formulas: glove enchants (Threat, Shadow Power, Frost Power, Fire Power, Healing Power, Superior Agility) and cloak enchants (Greater Fire Resistance, Greater Nature Resistance, Stealth, Subtlety, Dodge). All of them require a Runed Arcanite Rod.

Blacksmiths need 2 crystals for the Sageblade. Crystals are also required for the Argent Dawn Naxxramas attunement and for many T3 set piece quests at Light's Hope Chapel.
