Dungeon Pets in WoW Classic 1.12.1 — Worg Pup and Smolderweb Hatchling
Dungeon pets in WoW Classic 1.12.1 are just two non-combat companions: the Worg Pup and the Smolderweb Hatchling. Both are tied to Lower Blackrock Spire, yet they are not boss drops — the goblin Kibler hands them out as quest rewards. On the WoW x5 server you can earn both in one or two evenings if you find a group of level 55+ players.

What these pets are and how they look
The Worg Pup is a small copy of the Bloodaxe worgs, a shaggy wolf cub with a bared muzzle. The Smolderweb Hatchling is a tiny bluish spider on thin legs, offspring of the spiders ruled by Mother Smolderweb. Like all WoW Classic companion pets, it is a regular item in your bags: right-click summons the companion, a second click dismisses it. Patch 1.12.1 has no pet journal and no pet battles, and the item is not consumed on use.

Many guides claim the pup drops from Quartermaster Zigris and the spider from Mother Smolderweb. For 1.12.1 that is wrong: it only became true after Cataclysm. In the original game both pets are quest rewards.
How to get the Worg Pup and the Smolderweb Hatchling
Both quests are given by the goblin Kibler. The quests are level 59 and can be picked up from level 55.
- Travel to the Burning Steppes and find the Flame Crest camp in the north of the zone. Kibler sits in a small cave behind the camp next to a talking parrot.
- Accept «Kibler's Exotic Pets». Kibler gives you an empty cage for a pup.
- Accept the second quest, «En-Ay-Es-Tee-Why»: bring him 15 Spire Spider Eggs.
- Gather a group and enter Lower Blackrock Spire. The route is covered in the guide on how to get to Blackrock Spire.
- Bloodaxe Worg Pups live around the boss Halycon. Use the cage on a pup to receive a Caged Worg Pup.
- The eggs lie near the spiders, in the spider lair of Mother Smolderweb. Collect 15 of them.
- Return to Kibler and turn in both quests. You receive the Worg Carrier and the Smolderweb Carrier.
Dungeon pets table for 1.12.1
| Pet | Item | Quest | Where | Faction |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Worg Pup | Worg Carrier | Kibler's Exotic Pets | Lower Blackrock Spire, pups near Halycon | Both |
| Smolderweb Hatchling | Smolderweb Carrier | En-Ay-Es-Tee-Why | Lower Blackrock Spire, spider lair | Both |
There are no other companion pets from dungeon mobs or bosses in 1.12.1. The famous whelplings and the macaw drop in the open world — see rare world drop pets.
Tips
- Take both quests at once. Pups and eggs are in the same dungeon, so one run can finish both objectives. The full route through the halls is in the Lower Blackrock Spire guide.
- Warn your group. Mother Smolderweb's lair is a side branch that groups often skip. Agree in advance that you will visit the spiders.
- Do not confuse with hunters. Bloodaxe Worg Pups are normal mobs, and taming them does not give you a companion. Combat beasts are covered in hunter pets.
- For yourself only. The carriers bind on pickup, so you cannot gift them or post them on the auction house.
- Faction does not matter. In 1.12.1 Flame Crest is neutral, and Kibler helps both Alliance and Horde.

FAQ
?Does the Worg Pup drop from Quartermaster Zigris in WoW Classic?
No. In patch 1.12.1 the Worg Carrier is the reward for Kibler's quest «Kibler's Exotic Pets». It only became a Zigris drop in patch 4.0.6, after Cataclysm.
?Where is Kibler?
The goblin Kibler lives in a small cave behind the Flame Crest camp in northern Burning Steppes. In 1.12.1 the camp is neutral, so both Alliance and Horde can take his quests.
?Can I buy a Worg Pup or Smolderweb Hatchling on the auction house?
No. Both carriers bind when picked up, so they cannot be traded or sold. Every character has to complete the quests personally, once.
?Do these pets give any combat bonus?
No. A non-combat pet only follows its owner. It cannot attack, gives no stats and has nothing to do with hunter combat pets.
