Searing Gorge: Level 43–50 Zone Guide

◆Overview
The Searing Gorge is a contested zone for characters of level 43–50 in southern Khaz Modan, between the Badlands and the Burning Steppes. Like the Burning Steppes, it was scorched by the summoning of Ragnaros: ash, lava and the mines of the Dark Iron dwarves, who use captives as slave labor.
There are no towns. The only neutral camp is Thorium Point, added in patch 1.5. It sits on the cliffs in the north of the gorge, above the Cauldron, and is home to the Thorium Brotherhood, dwarves who broke away from the Dark Iron clan.

◆Getting there
- From Loch Modan (Alliance). Stonewrought Pass in the northeast is closed by a locked gate. The Key to Searing Gorge is the reward of a quest chain ending in a level 48 quest. A rogue with 225 lockpicking can open the gate.
- From the Badlands (both factions). A narrow trail south of Kargath was cut through the mountains by the Horde. This is the main Horde entrance.
- Through Blackrock Mountain. From the Burning Steppes in the south you can cross the mountain straight into the gorge.

Flight paths
From Thorium Point the Alliance flies to Ironforge and Morgan's Vigil (Burning Steppes); the Horde flies to Kargath (Badlands) and Flame Crest (Burning Steppes). If you die inside the Blackrock Mountain instances, your spirit appears at the Thorium Point graveyard, another quick way to get here.
Quests and enemies
Several key NPCs work at the camp: Hansel Heavyhands asks you to destroy golems, spiders and incendosaurs, Master Smith Burninate gathers materials for fiery flux, and Velarok Windblade sends you to burn the Dark Iron sentry towers. Enemies include Dark Iron dwarves, fire and lava elementals, golems, incendosaurs, spiders and thunder lizards.
◆Thorium Brotherhood
The Thorium Brotherhood are independent dwarven craftsmen. Thorium Point quests give the first reputation; after that you raise it by turning in Dark Iron Ore and Molten Core materials to Lokhtos Darkbargainer in the Grim Guzzler tavern in Blackrock Depths. Reputation unlocks blacksmithing, leatherworking, tailoring and enchanting recipes. Details are in the Thorium Brotherhood article and the reputation guide.

- Ore: silver, iron, gold, mithril, truesilver, small thorium veins and occasional Dark Iron deposits (230 skill).

The Badlands trail passes Kargath, a Horde camp with guards. Alliance players should give it a wide berth.

?How do I get to the Searing Gorge?
Three ways: from Loch Modan in the northeast through the locked Stonewrought Pass gate (you need the Key to Searing Gorge or a rogue with 225 lockpicking), from the west by the trail in the Badlands south of Kargath, and from the south through Blackrock Mountain from the Burning Steppes.
?Where is the flight path in the Searing Gorge?
At Thorium Point in the north of the zone. There are two flight masters: the Alliance flies to Ironforge and Morgan's Vigil, the Horde to Kargath and Flame Crest.
?Can I mine Dark Iron in the Searing Gorge?
Yes. In 1.12.1 Dark Iron deposits occasionally spawn in the gorge and the Burning Steppes, but the main source is Blackrock Depths and Molten Core. You need 230 Mining; no special pick is required.
?How do I raise Thorium Brotherhood reputation?
Start with the quests at Thorium Point, then turn in Dark Iron Ore and Molten Core materials to Lokhtos Darkbargainer in the Blackrock Depths tavern. Reputation unlocks fire resistance recipes.
