Goblin Land Mine in Vanilla 1.12.1

Section: Lore & bestiary 5 min read Vanilla 1.12.1 · x5 Updated 23.10.2026

Goblin Land Mine is the engineer's trap explosive in Vanilla 1.12.1: you place the mine on the ground and it explodes by itself when an enemy walks past. It is the engineer's way to booby-trap a passage, a flag or an escape route. Below are the exact tooltip numbers, reagents, the schematic source and use cases on the WoW x5 server.

How Goblin Land Mine works

The mine is placed under the engineer's feet instantly and then lives on its own. According to the 1.12.1 tooltip:

  • it explodes the next time a hostile creature passes near it and deals 394–506 Fire damage to it;
  • the mine lasts 1 minute — if nobody comes close, it disappears without exploding;
  • 1 minute cooldown, shared with grenades, bombs and dynamite;
  • stacks to 10 and requires Engineering (195) to use.

Unlike the Goblin Sapper Charge, the mine does not damage its owner, and despite its name no Goblin Engineering specialization is needed — any engineer can craft and use it.

How to make Goblin Land Mine

  1. Raise Engineering to 195 — the route to this point is laid out in the engineering guide.
  2. Obtain Schematic: Goblin Land Mine. Trainers do not sell it: it is a random drop from mid-level creatures. Players most often report it from Scarlet Monastery, Uldaman and Zul'Farrak; the schematic also shows up on the auction house regularly.
  3. Learn the schematic and gather the reagents from the table.
  4. Keep a Blacksmith Hammer and an Arclight Spanner in your bags — you cannot assemble the mine without them.

Other drop and vendor schematics are listed in the engineering schematics reference.

Reagents

ReagentAmountSource
Heavy Blasting Powder3made from Heavy Stone
Iron Bar2smelted from iron ore
Gyrochronatom1Iron Bar and Gold Power Core

All reagents belong to the engineer's iron era, so it is convenient to make mines alongside Iron Grenades, which require skill 175.

Use cases: PvP and dungeons

The Alliance base in Warsong Gulch — mines are especially effective near the flag
The Alliance base in Warsong Gulch — mines are especially effective near the flag

The flag in Warsong Gulch. The classic trick is to put a mine on the flag carrier's path, right at the flag or at the base exit. An enemy running past takes up to 506 Fire damage, and the defenders have an easier time finishing him. The map and routes are on the Warsong Gulch page and in the Warsong Gulch guide.

Ambush. The mine pairs well with stealth: an engineer rogue places it at a narrow point on a road and waits until the enemy steps into the trap. More ideas for opening a fight are in the rogue PvP guide.

Retreat in a dungeon. When the group backs off from a bad pull, a mine dropped at your feet before you run deals damage to the first enemy chasing you. Remember that the mine lives for only a minute, so placing it far in advance is pointless.

The rest of the gadgets and their roles are covered in the engineering combat gadgets hub, and the top-tier stun grenade is described in the Thorium Grenade reference.

Совет

Mines and grenades share the one minute cooldown. If you expect a melee fight that needs a stun, decide first what matters more: a trap on the enemy's path or a grenade in your hand.

Tips

  • Place the mine at a point the enemy must pass through: a passage, a bridge, a base door.
  • One minute is short, so the mine is best placed when the enemy is already running towards you.
  • The schematic is an uncommon drop; if you find it while levelling through the 30s and 40s, do not sell it to a vendor.
