Noggenfogger Elixir: Skeleton, Shrink and Slow Fall in Vanilla

What the elixir is and why you want it

Vanilla has no toy box and no transmogrification, so fun items like this are the only way to change how your character looks. The elixir belongs to the transformation items category and is part of our WoW Classic fun items collection. It also has real practical value: the skeleton form grants water breathing and the third effect gives slow fall.

Key properties according to the 1.12 database:

• quality: common (white), item level 45;
• binds when picked up, so you cannot buy it on the auction house or give it to a friend;
• stacks up to 20, sells to a vendor for 1 silver 75 copper;
• effects from different sips stack, so you can become a tiny skeleton.

Different databases list different durations for the slow fall effect, so drink the elixir right before you jump, not in advance.

How to get the elixir: the quest chain

The elixir is handed out and sold by Marin Noggenfogger, a goblin alchemist in Gadgetzan (around 51, 28). First you need to finish his chain; all quests are level 49 and can be picked up from level 44. Our guide on how to get to Gadgetzan explains the travel route.

1. The Thirsty Goblin. Collect a Laden Dew Gland from Thistleshrub Dew Collectors (level 47–48) in the south-west of Tanaris and bring it to Marin.
2. In Good Taste. The drink tastes awful, so take the dew to the cook Sprinkle in Gadgetzan.
3. Sprinkle's Secret Ingredient. Find a Violet Tragan mushroom. It grows only underwater in a small lake south of the road through The Hinterlands; see how to get to The Hinterlands for the route.
4. Delivery for Marin. Sprinkle turns it into Violet Powder; bring the powder to Marin.
5. Noggenfogger Elixir. Wait while the goblin mixes the powder with the dew and receive 5 bottles of the elixir.

After the final quest Marin opens his shop: you can buy more elixir at any time, at a base price of about 35 silver per bottle.

How to use the elixir well

Slow fall

The elixir can save you from fall damage, but the effect is random. Step back from the edge, drink a bottle and jump only once you see the slow fall buff. If you got skeleton or shrink instead, drink again, since effects stack.

Skeleton and water breathing

The 10-minute skeleton form grants water breathing, which is handy for underwater quests and gathering on the sea floor.

1.12.1 limitations

• In 1.12 you cannot mount while in skeleton form or shrunk; that was only allowed in later expansions. Right-click the buff icon to cancel it.
• The elixir is not a combat item: it gives no armor, damage or resistances. For combat devices see our article on engineering combat gadgets.
• Alchemists cannot brew it; there is no recipe, as our alchemy guide confirms.

Tips

• Keep 5–10 bottles in your bags for cliff jumps and screenshots.
• Do the chain at levels 44–49 together with other quests; see Tanaris leveling.
