How to Reach Grom'gol Base Camp in WoW 1.12.1
How to get to Grom'gol is the first question every Horde player asks on reaching Stranglethorn Vale. Grom'gol Base Camp is the Horde stronghold in the jungle: zeppelins from two capitals land here, and the camp has a flight path, an inn and quest chains for levels 30 to 45. Here are all the routes on the WoW x5 server (Vanilla 1.12.1), plus an honest look at what awaits an Alliance player here.

◆Where Grom'gol Is
The camp sits on the west coast of northern Stranglethorn Vale, in the south of the Eastern Kingdoms. The raptor fields of the Savage Coast stretch to the north, wrecked ships lie just off the beach, and the tall zeppelin tower rising above the palisade is visible from far away, making it the best landmark. From the main road that runs north to south through the vale, turn west towards the sea to reach the camp. The surrounding area is for levels 30 to 45; mobs get noticeably tougher closer to Booty Bay.

◆How to Reach Grom'gol as Horde
The Horde does not need to walk: in 1.12 two direct zeppelin lines serve Grom'gol.
- From Orgrimmar. Leave the city into Durotar: the zeppelin tower stands outside the walls of Orgrimmar. Climb to the Stranglethorn platform; a goblin zeppelin master at the dock tells you which ship goes where.
- From the Undercity. Go up into Tirisfal Glades to the zeppelin tower near the ruins of Lordaeron and board the flight to Stranglethorn Vale.
- From Thunder Bluff. There is no direct zeppelin: fly to Orgrimmar on a wind rider and board there.
- Once you step off in Grom'gol, discover the flight path at the wind rider master and bind your hearthstone at the inn at the base of the tower.
- From then on you can fly from Grom'gol to Booty Bay and Stonard, and from there across the whole Horde network in the Eastern Kingdoms.
You can also walk from Stonard through Deadwind Pass and Duskwood, but it is long and dangerous: the road crosses Alliance territory. More about reaching the vale is in the guide how to get to Stranglethorn Vale.
◆Grom'gol for the Alliance: Is It Worth Going
Grom'gol is a Horde faction camp, not a neutral town. An Alliance character finds no flight path, inn or vendors here, and the camp guards attack on sight. For the Alliance, Grom'gol is only a landmark on the map:
- From Stormwind, fly to Darkshire in Duskwood.
- Follow the main road south into Stranglethorn Vale to the Rebel Camp.
- The road continues south to Booty Bay, which is where the Alliance flight path is. Keep away from the coast near Grom'gol.
Raiding the camp for world PvP is a personal choice, but remember the strong guards and the fact that Horde players arrive here every few minutes. Rules and tips are in the world PvP guide.
◆Where the Dock Is and How to Find Your Way
- The zeppelin tower stands inside the palisade. It has two platforms: one for Orgrimmar and one for the Undercity. Goblin zeppelin masters tell you the destination of each flight.
- The inn is at the base of the tower: it was added in patch 1.7; before that you could not bind in the camp.
- The wind rider master is inside the camp and serves only the Horde.
- Exits: the road east leads to the main road of the vale; north along it are the Rebel Camp and Duskwood, south are the Gurubashi Arena and Booty Bay.
Grom'gol: Summary Table
| Point | What is there |
|---|---|
| Zeppelin from Orgrimmar | Tower in Durotar, outside the city walls |
| Zeppelin from the Undercity | Tower in Tirisfal Glades |
| Flight path | Horde only; links to Booty Bay and Stonard |
| Inn | At the base of the zeppelin tower, hearthstone binding |
| Alliance | No services, guards are hostile |
◆Hearthstone and Fast Travel
If you level in the jungle, binding in Grom'gol saves a lot of time: one click of the stone and you are back at the zeppelins. Horde shamans can cover the jungle roads faster with their class form.

◆Why Go to Grom'gol
The camp starts the Horde quest chains of Stranglethorn Vale: hunting Bloodscalp trolls, defending the camp and errands for the far seer; the route through them is in the Stranglethorn Vale leveling guide. Grom'gol is a good starting point for heading south: the way to the goblin port is described in how to get to Booty Bay. At level 60 the camp becomes a raid base, see how to get to Zul'Gurub. All the world's zeppelins and ships are collected in the travel guide, and the wind rider routes in the flight paths guide.

FAQ
?What is the fastest way for the Horde to reach Grom'gol?
Take a zeppelin. Flights to Grom'gol leave from the zeppelin tower outside Orgrimmar in Durotar and from the tower near the Undercity in Tirisfal Glades. The zeppelin docks right at the tower inside the camp.
?Does Grom'gol have a flight path?
Yes, but only for the Horde: the wind rider master serves Horde characters. The Alliance has no flight path, inn or vendors here.
?Can I set my hearthstone in Grom'gol?
Yes. An inn was added at the base of the zeppelin tower in patch 1.7, so in version 1.12.1 you can bind your hearthstone right in the camp.
?What level is Grom'gol for?
The camp is in Stranglethorn Vale, a zone for roughly levels 30 to 45. The first Grom'gol quests can be picked up at level 30 to 32, and at level 60 the camp is a handy base for Zul'Gurub.
