How to Reach Darkshore in WoW 1.12.1
How to get to Darkshore is the first real travel question for night elves leaving Teldrassil and for Alliance players from the Eastern Kingdoms who want to level in Kalimdor. Darkshore is a misty strip of coastline with the port of Auberdine, the main Alliance sea hub in northern Kalimdor. Here are the routes for both factions on the WoW x5 server (Vanilla 1.12.1).

◆Where Darkshore Is
Darkshore is a long stretch of coast in northwestern Kalimdor. The sea washes it from the west, with the island of Teldrassil across the strait; mountains close it off to the east, where Felwood begins; and to the south the zone blends into Ashenvale. The recommended level is 10-20. A detailed overview is in the Darkshore article.
Landmarks from north to south: the Tower of Althalaxx in the north, the ruins of Bashal'Aran and Ameth'Aran along the road, the port of Auberdine in the middle of the coast, the Grove of the Ancients and the Master's Glaive in the south, and Remtravel's Excavation on the southwestern shore.
How to Get to Darkshore as Alliance
For the Alliance every road leads to Auberdine - the zone's only flight path and its port.
From Darnassus (night elves):
- From Darnassus, take the portal down to Rut'theran Village.
- Fly by hippogryph to Auberdine or board the boat at the Rut'theran dock.
- On arrival, talk to the flight master and discover the Auberdine flight path.
From the Eastern Kingdoms (humans, dwarves, gnomes):
- Fly by gryphon to Menethil Harbor in the Wetlands. If you have not discovered it yet, walk there from Ironforge through Loch Modan.
- At the Menethil Harbor docks, take the boat to Auberdine. Do not mix them up: the other boat from the port goes to Theramore.
- Step ashore in Auberdine and discover the flight path.

How to Get to Darkshore as Horde
The Horde has no camps and no flight path in Darkshore: this is the Alliance hinterland, and the way in leads through Ashenvale.
- Fly to Zoram'gar Outpost on the Zoram Strand. If you have not discovered it yet, reach Ashenvale first - see how to get to Ashenvale.
- From Zoram'gar Outpost, head northeast to the main road.
- Follow the road north. It passes Maestra's Post, where Alliance guards stand - give it a wide berth.
- Darkshore begins past the outpost. Auberdine is guarded by Alliance sentinels, so a lone Horde player should stay away from it.
Where the Zone Border Is and What to Watch For
- There is only one land entrance - the road from Ashenvale in the south of the zone, past the Master's Glaive and the Grove of the Ancients.
- Two boats leave Auberdine: to Rut'theran and to Menethil Harbor. They use different docks - check the signs by the gangway.
- You cannot cross the mountains east into Felwood: the road there starts in Ashenvale. See how to get to Felwood.
- Darkshore has no dungeons; the closest one is Blackfathom Deeps on the Ashenvale coast, south of the zone.

Routes to Darkshore: Summary Table
| Step | Alliance | Horde |
|---|---|---|
| Start | Darnassus or Menethil Harbor | Orgrimmar or Thunder Bluff |
| Transport | Hippogryph or boat to Auberdine | Wind rider to Zoram'gar Outpost |
| On foot | Not needed | From Ashenvale north past Maestra's Post |
| Closest flight path | Auberdine | Zoram'gar Outpost (Ashenvale) |
Set your hearthstone at the Auberdine inn: Darnassus and Ashenvale are equally close from here, and the boat to Menethil Harbor comes in handy whenever you need to return to the Eastern Kingdoms.
◆Why Go to Darkshore
For night elves it is the next zone after Teldrassil, and for the other Alliance races it is a handy alternative to Westfall and Loch Modan. Auberdine quests lead along the whole coast, from the Tower of Althalaxx in the north to the southern ruins. The quest order is in the Darkshore leveling guide, and everything about the port is in the Auberdine guide. To save time on travel, read the flight paths guide.

FAQ
?Where is Darkshore?
On the northwestern coast of Kalimdor, across the strait from Teldrassil. Ashenvale borders it to the south, and mountains separate it from Felwood to the east. The recommended level is 10-20.
?Which boats leave Auberdine in 1.12?
Two: one to Rut'theran Village on Teldrassil and one to Menethil Harbor in the Wetlands. There is no boat to Stormwind in patch 1.12 - that route only appeared in later expansions.
?Is there a Horde flight path in Darkshore?
No. In 1.12 the only flight path in the zone is the Alliance hippogryph master in Auberdine. The closest Horde flight path is Zoram'gar Outpost in Ashenvale, from where you walk north.
?What is the fastest way from Darnassus to Auberdine?
Take the portal down to Rut'theran Village and board the hippogryph or the boat to Auberdine. Both bring you straight to the center of Darkshore.
