How to Get to Felwood: the Road from Ashenvale for Alliance and Horde
How to get to Felwood is a question most players ask around level 48: the corrupted forest in northern Kalimdor does not border any capital city, and the only road in comes from Ashenvale. Below are step-by-step routes for the Alliance and the Horde, the flight paths and the dangerous stretches of the road on the WoW x5 server (Vanilla 1.12.1).

◆Where Felwood is
Felwood lies in northern Kalimdor: Ashenvale is to the south, Darkshore to the west, and Moonglade and Winterspring to the north-east. The recommended level is 48–55. It was once the northern part of Ashenvale, but during the Third War the dreadlord Tichondrius corrupted the land with the Skull of Gul'dan, and now it is home to corrupted ancients, satyrs and maddened furbolgs.
There are no towns of its own. A stone road runs through the whole forest from south to north, and it is your main landmark. The Alliance outpost is Talonbranch Glade in the north, the Horde outpost is Bloodvenom Post in the west, on the cliffs above Darkshore. Felwood has no dungeons or battlegrounds.
How to get there as Alliance
- Reach Astranaar in Ashenvale. From Darnassus go through Rut'theran Village and take the boat to Auberdine, then fly by hippogryph if the flight path is known. Players from the Eastern Kingdoms sail to Auberdine from Menethil Harbor.
- Leave Astranaar by the road heading east.
- At the fork turn north: this branch leads straight into Felwood.
- Follow the road north through the whole zone without leaving it.
- Discover the Talonbranch Glade flight path in the north of the forest. From here you can fly, for example, to Auberdine and Everlook.
How to get there as Horde
- Fly to Splintertree Post in eastern Ashenvale. If you do not have it yet, walk from Orgrimmar north through the Barrens.
- Leave the outpost by the road heading west.
- At the fork turn north into Felwood.
- Follow the road to the Bloodvenom River and walk west along its southern bank: the camp stands on the cliffs above Darkshore.
- Discover the Bloodvenom Post flight path. From here you can fly, for example, to Orgrimmar, the Crossroads and Everlook.
Your first visit is always on foot, because both camps must be discovered at the flight master. The full network is in the flight paths guide.
Entrances and how not to get lost
- The southern entrance is the only road from Ashenvale and the main route for both factions.
- The northern entrance is Timbermaw Hold: the furbolg tunnel connects northern Felwood with Moonglade and Winterspring. In 1.12.1 the Timbermaw start out hostile, so without at least Unfriendly reputation the guards attack you; see the Timbermaw Hold reputation guide.
- You cannot climb up from Darkshore: mountains separate the zones, and you can only jump down from the Felwood side.
- Dangerous spots: the camps of Jaedenar with Shadow Council forces stand near the road, and the Deadwood furbolg villages are in the north. Stay on the road, especially before level 50.
| Route | Alliance | Horde |
|---|---|---|
| Nearest flight path before the zone | Astranaar (Ashenvale) | Splintertree Post (Ashenvale) |
| Direction from it | East, then north | West, then north |
| Flight path in the zone | Talonbranch Glade (north) | Bloodvenom Post (west) |
| Northern entrance | Timbermaw Hold tunnel | Timbermaw Hold tunnel |
The general road map of Kalimdor is in the travel guide.
◆Why go to Felwood
Felwood is one of the key level 48–55 zones and an important stop for level 60 characters:
- quest chains from both camps, covered in the Felwood leveling guide;
- the corrupted Songflowers give the world buff Songflower Serenade;
- high-level herbs including Dreamfoil, see Dreamfoil farming;
- Timbermaw reputation and the road onwards to Winterspring.

FAQ
?How do I get to Felwood for the first time?
On foot from Ashenvale. Alliance players take the road east from Astranaar, Horde players take the road west from Splintertree Post; at the fork the road turns north into Felwood. From there the main road runs through the whole zone from south to north.
?Which flight paths are in Felwood?
In patch 1.12.1 each faction has one: Alliance uses Talonbranch Glade in the north of the zone, Horde uses Bloodvenom Post in the west. Both must be discovered once on foot by talking to the flight master.
?Can I enter Felwood from Darkshore?
No, you cannot climb from Darkshore up into Felwood because steep mountains separate them. The other way round you can jump down the cliffs with slow fall, but the only ways in are the road from Ashenvale and the Timbermaw Hold tunnel.
?What level is Felwood?
Felwood is designed for roughly levels 48 to 55. Go there around level 48, after Tanaris, Feralas or the Hinterlands.
