How to Reach Auberdine in WoW 1.12.1

Section: World & travel 5 min read Vanilla 1.12.1 · x5 Updated 12.10.2026

How to get to Auberdine is the first travel question for a night elf leaving Teldrassil and a routine route for humans, dwarves and gnomes sailing from the Eastern Kingdoms to Kalimdor. Auberdine is a night elf port town in Darkshore with two piers and a hippogryph master. Here is how both factions get there on the WoW x5 server (Vanilla 1.12.1).

Where is Auberdine

Auberdine sits in the middle of the western coast of Darkshore — a level 10–20 coastal zone in northwestern Kalimdor. Across the strait to the west rises the island of Teldrassil, to the south the zone blends into Ashenvale, and mountains close it off to the east. Pre-Cataclysm Auberdine has wooden elven houses, little bridges over streams, a lighthouse and long piers. A zone overview is in our Darkshore article, and the town's vendors and quests are in the Auberdine town guide.

How to get to Auberdine as Alliance

From Darnassus (night elves)

  1. From Darnassus, go down to Rut'theran Village at the foot of Teldrassil through the portal. Details are in how to get to Darnassus.
  2. Board the ship at the village dock or fly by hippogryph — both routes lead straight to Auberdine.
  3. On arrival, talk to the hippogryph master (Caylais Moonfeather) right away and pick up the flight path.

From the Eastern Kingdoms (humans, dwarves, gnomes)

  1. Get to Menethil Harbor in the Wetlands — by gryphon, or on foot from Ironforge through Loch Modan. The route is covered in how to get to Menethil Harbor.
  2. At the harbor docks, board the ship to Auberdine. Do not mix them up: the second ship from Menethil goes to Theramore.
  3. The ship docks at Auberdine's southern pier. Pick up the flight path.

On foot from Ashenvale

If you are already in Astranaar, follow the main road north past Maestra's Post — it leads straight into Darkshore and along the coast to Auberdine. On the way back, hippogryphs from Auberdine fly to Astranaar and other discovered Kalimdor flight points.

How to get to Auberdine as Horde

Auberdine is an Alliance town guarded by sentinels, and the Horde has no flight point here. Horde players come only for PvP or while passing through.

  1. From Orgrimmar, fly by wind rider to Ashenvale — Splintertree Post or Zoram'gar Outpost on the coast, if you already have those flight points. How to get there the first time is explained in how to get to Ashenvale.
  2. Reach the main road and head north. Alliance guards stand at Maestra's Post — go around it.
  3. Darkshore begins past the outpost. The coastal road leads to Auberdine, but it is better not to enter the town alone.

Where is the entrance and what to keep in mind

  • Land entrance — there is only one into the zone: the road from Ashenvale in the south. You cannot cross the mountains to the east.
  • Two piers: the ship from the southern pier goes to Menethil Harbor, the other to Rut'theran Village. There is no ship to Stormwind or Azuremyst Isle in 1.12 — those routes arrived in later expansions.
  • Hippogryph master serves the Alliance only; the flight to Rut'theran is the shortest.
  • Inn with an innkeeper — set your Hearthstone here while leveling in Darkshore.

Auberdine is a handy Hearthstone point for leveling in Darkshore: both Teldrassil and the Eastern Kingdoms are just one ship away.

Why go to Auberdine

This is where the Darkshore quests for levels 10–20 begin — their order is collected in the Darkshore leveling guide. To the south, on the Ashenvale coast, lies the Blackfathom Deeps dungeon — read how to get to Blackfathom Deeps for the way to the entrance. Routes across Kalimdor are collected in the flight paths guide and the travel guide.

FAQ

How do I get to Auberdine from Darnassus?

Go down from Darnassus to Rut'theran Village at the foot of Teldrassil. From there two routes lead to Auberdine: the ship from the village dock or a hippogryph from the flight master.

Is there a ship from Stormwind to Auberdine?

No. In 1.12 Stormwind has no harbor. From the Eastern Kingdoms the only ship to Auberdine leaves from Menethil Harbor in the Wetlands. The Stormwind to Auberdine route was added only in Wrath of the Lich King.

Does the Horde have a flight path in Auberdine?

No. The hippogryph master in Auberdine serves the Alliance only. The closest Horde flight points are Splintertree Post and Zoram'gar Outpost in Ashenvale, from which you walk north.

Can a Horde player board the ship in Auberdine?

The ships do not check your faction, but in Auberdine and on its docks Horde players are attacked by Alliance sentinels at once. Without a group this route nearly always ends at the graveyard.
