How to Reach Dun Morogh and Ironforge in WoW 1.12.1
How to get to Dun Morogh is a question asked by humans and night elves who want to try the dwarf starting zone, by players who need Ironforge, and by Horde players looking for the way to Gnomeregan. Dun Morogh is the snowy mountain region of Khaz Modan, homeland of the dwarves and gnomes. Mountains surround it on every side, so there are only a few ways in. Here is each of them for the WoW x5 server (Vanilla 1.12.1).

◆Where Dun Morogh Is
Dun Morogh lies in the mountains of Khaz Modan, in the central part of the Eastern Kingdoms. Loch Modan borders it to the east, the Searing Gorge lies beyond the ridges to the south, and the Wetlands to the north. The zone can only be entered through guarded mountain tunnels or by the Deeprun Tram. The recommended level is 1-10. The subzones are described in the Dun Morogh article.
Key landmarks: Coldridge Valley with Anvilmar, where new dwarves and gnomes appear; the village of Kharanos with the Thunderbrew Distillery inn; the capital Ironforge in the heart of the mountain; Brewnall Village and the ruins of Gnomeregan in the west; North Gate Outpost and South Gate Outpost in the east.

How to Get to Dun Morogh as Alliance
Dwarves and Gnomes
Dwarves and gnomes start in Coldridge Valley. The road through Coldridge Pass leads to Kharanos and from there to Ironforge.
Humans
The fastest way is the Deeprun Tram:
- In Stormwind, go to the Dwarven District and down to the tram tunnel entrance.
- Board a car - the ride is free and takes a couple of minutes.
- You arrive in Tinker Town in Ironforge.
- Leave Ironforge through the main gate - Dun Morogh is right in front of you.
Night Elves
- From Rut'theran Village take the boat to Auberdine in Darkshore.
- From Auberdine take the boat to Menethil Harbor in the Wetlands.
- Follow the road southeast to the Dun Algaz gorge and go down into Loch Modan.
- In Loch Modan turn west: the North Gate Pass and South Gate Pass tunnels lead straight into Dun Morogh.
Once the Ironforge flight path is discovered, you can fly here by gryphon after your first visit. A map of all routes is in the travel guide.
How to Get to Dun Morogh as Horde
For the Horde, Dun Morogh is Alliance land behind two rings of guards, and players usually come here for Gnomeregan. There are two ways:
- Through the Wetlands: from Undercity walk south through the Hillsbrad Foothills and the Arathi Highlands, cross Thandol Span into the Wetlands, then take the Dun Algaz gorge into Loch Modan.
- Through the Badlands: if you have the Kargath flight path, fly there and walk north into Loch Modan - the route is described in how to get to the Badlands.
From Loch Modan turn west towards the North Gate or South Gate tunnels. Give Thelsamar and the gate outposts a wide berth: they are guarded by Alliance troops.
Where the Entrances Are and How to Find Your Way
In 1.12 Dun Morogh has a single flight path - in Ironforge; the separate flight points at Kharanos and Gol'Bolar Quarry were only added in Cataclysm. The South Gate tunnel is more convenient if you come from Thelsamar, the North Gate tunnel if you arrive from the Wetlands. Set your hearthstone at the Thunderbrew Distillery in Kharanos or in Ironforge.

Alliance mages can teleport to Ironforge from level 20.
The Gnomeregan entrance is in the west of the zone, beyond Brewnall Village: the detailed route is in how to get to Gnomeregan.

◆Why Go to Dun Morogh
For dwarves and gnomes this is the starting zone: the quest order is in the Dun Morogh leveling guide, and the first steps are covered in the guides for dwarves and for gnomes. For humans and night elves the zone offers level 5-10 quests and access to Ironforge with its auction house and trainers. At level 40 dwarves buy their racial riding ram here, while other Alliance races in 1.12 can only do so at Exalted reputation with Ironforge.
To save time on the road, discover the Ironforge flight path - details are in the flight paths guide.
