Section: World & travel 6 min read Vanilla 1.12.1 · x5 Updated 10.10.2026

How to get to Mulgore is a question asked by Horde players who want to start a tauren together with friends, and by anyone who needs Thunder Bluff for trainers or the auction house. Mulgore is the green tauren valley in western Kalimdor, and there is only one mountain pass leading into it. Here are all the routes for the WoW x5 server (Vanilla 1.12.1).

Where Mulgore Is

Mulgore lies in western Kalimdor. The Barrens border it to the east, the Stonetalon Mountains to the north, Desolace to the west and Thousand Needles to the south. Mountains enclose the valley on every side, and there is only one normal land route in: the pass in the southeast that leads into the Barrens. The recommended level is 1-10 - this is the tauren starting zone. Subzones are described in the Mulgore article.

Key landmarks: Camp Narache on Red Cloud Mesa in the south, Bloodhoof Village by Stonebull Lake in the center, and the capital of Thunder Bluff on the high mesas in the north. Mulgore has no dungeons, and its only flight path is in Thunder Bluff.

How to Get to Mulgore as Horde

Tauren start right here, in Camp Narache. Every other Horde race has to walk through the Barrens, because there is no zeppelin to Thunder Bluff in 1.12 - it only arrived with Wrath of the Lich King.

From Orgrimmar (orcs and trolls):

  1. From Orgrimmar, head west to the bridge over the river on the western border of Durotar.
  2. Once across the bridge you are in the Barrens. Follow the road west to the Crossroads and discover the flight path.
  3. From the Crossroads, take the main road south to Camp Taurajo. There is another Horde flight path here.
  4. A mountain pass begins right west of the camp - go through it and you are in Mulgore.
  5. The road leads to Bloodhoof Village and then north to Thunder Bluff. Elevators carry you up to the city mesas.

From Undercity (undead): at the zeppelin tower between Brill and Undercity, take the zeppelin to Orgrimmar and continue with the route above. The towers are described in how to get to Tirisfal Glades.

Until you have discovered the Thunder Bluff flight path, you cannot fly there from Orgrimmar: in 1.12 every flight point must first be found on foot.

How to Get to Mulgore as Alliance

Mulgore is deep Horde territory, so the only things happy to see an Alliance player here are the mobs. The trip is long, and the guards of Bloodhoof Village, Camp Taurajo and Thunder Bluff attack on sight.

  1. From Stormwind, fly to Booty Bay at the southern tip of Stranglethorn Vale.
  2. Take the boat to Ratchet, the goblin port on the Barrens coast. The Ratchet flight path is available to both factions.
  3. From Ratchet, head west, giving the Crossroads a wide berth, then southwest towards Camp Taurajo.
  4. Do not enter the camp itself: go around it and onto the pass into Mulgore.

Night elves can also reach the Barrens through Ashenvale, but that path runs past Horde outposts. For low-level trips into enemy territory, bring a group.

Where the Entrance Is and What to Watch For

  • The way into the valley is the pass west of Camp Taurajo. The road from the camp leads straight to it, so it is hard to miss.
  • There is no direct road from Mulgore to the Stonetalon Mountains or Thousand Needles, even though the zones share a border on the map. The way there leads through the Barrens - see how to get to the Stonetalon Mountains and how to get to Thousand Needles.
  • Thunder Bluff stands on several mesas joined by bridges; elevators lead up from the ground.
  • If you stay in the zone for a while, set your hearthstone at the inn in Thunder Bluff or Bloodhoof Village.

Why Go to Mulgore

For tauren this is where the journey begins: the quests of Camp Narache and Bloodhoof Village take you from level 1 to 10, and their order is laid out in the Mulgore leveling guide and the tauren starting guide. Other Horde players should visit Thunder Bluff for class trainers, the auction house and the flight path - the Thunder Bluff city guide shows where everything is. To cut down on travel later, read the flight paths guide and the world travel guide.

FAQ

Where is Mulgore?

In western Kalimdor, west of the Barrens. It is the level 1-10 tauren starting zone with the capital Thunder Bluff in its center. Mountains surround the valley on all sides, and the only pass leads southeast into the Barrens.

Is there a zeppelin to Thunder Bluff in 1.12?

No. The Orgrimmar to Thunder Bluff zeppelin was only added in patch 3.2.0. In patch 1.12 you walk to Mulgore through the Barrens, and once you discover the Thunder Bluff flight path you can fly there by wind rider.

How does an orc or undead get to Mulgore?

From Orgrimmar, go west into the Barrens to the Crossroads, then follow the road south to Camp Taurajo and take the pass west into Mulgore. Undead first take the zeppelin from Undercity to Orgrimmar.

Can the Alliance get to Mulgore?

Yes, but it is dangerous: the valley is Horde territory, and Bloodhoof Village and Thunder Bluff are protected by strong guards. The easiest way is to take the boat to Ratchet and cross the Barrens to the pass near Camp Taurajo.
