How to Reach Teldrassil and Darnassus in WoW 1.12.1
How to get to Teldrassil is a question asked by more than just night elves. Humans, dwarves and gnomes sail to the island for the capital of Darnassus, its trainers and quests, while Horde players come for a daring raid behind Alliance lines. Teldrassil is a World Tree off the northwestern coast of Kalimdor, and the only way onto it is by sea. Here are all the routes for the WoW x5 server (Vanilla 1.12.1).

◆Where Teldrassil Is
Teldrassil is a giant island-tree in the Veiled Sea, northwest of the Darkshore coast. Its canopy holds a whole level 1-10 zone: the Shadowglen starting area with the tree Aldrassil in the northeast, the village of Dolanaar in the center, and the night elf capital of Darnassus in the west. At the very foot of the tree lies Rut'theran Village - the island's only port and its only flight path. Subzones are covered in the Teldrassil article.

How to Get to Teldrassil as Alliance
Night elves start right here, in Shadowglen. Every other Alliance race faces a trip through the Eastern Kingdoms and two sea crossings.
- From Stormwind, travel to Ironforge on the Deeprun Tram.
- From Ironforge, fly to Menethil Harbor if you have already discovered that flight path. If not, walk through Dun Morogh and Loch Modan, then through the Dun Algaz tunnels into the Wetlands and follow the road northwest to the harbor. Wetlands mobs are much tougher than starting-zone ones, so stay on the road. More in our guide on how to get to the Wetlands.
- In Menethil Harbor, take the boat to Auberdine in Darkshore.
- In Auberdine, walk to the neighbouring pier and board The Moonspray to Rut'theran Village.
- In Rut'theran, discover the flight path, then step into the portal - it takes you up to Darnassus.

Once the Rut'theran flight path is discovered, you can fly between it and Auberdine by hippogryph. The way back to the Eastern Kingdoms is the same: the boat from Auberdine to Menethil Harbor.
How to Get to Teldrassil as Horde
The Horde has no transport to the island: before Cataclysm the only way was the same Auberdine boat the Alliance uses. The trip is long and dangerous.
- From Orgrimmar, head north through the Barrens into Ashenvale. The Horde has flight paths there at Splintertree Post and Zoram'gar Outpost. The route is described in how to get to Ashenvale.
- From Ashenvale, follow the road north into Darkshore.
- Skirt Auberdine along the waterline: Alliance guards patrol the town.
- Wait for the Rut'theran boat at the pier and jump on at the last moment.
- Sentinels attack you in Rut'theran and Darnassus, so this raid is best done as a group.
Swimming over from Darkshore is possible in theory, but the trip across deep water is long and risky - do not try it without swim speed potions or a druid form.
Where the Entrance Is and What to Watch For
- Rut'theran Village is the gateway to the island. The Auberdine boat docks here and the hippogryphs land here.
- The portal to Darnassus stands in Rut'theran on the hill by the roots of the tree. An identical portal inside Darnassus takes you back down.
- Darnassus and Dolanaar have no flight path in 1.12 - you can only fly from Rut'theran.
- From Darnassus a road leads east to Dolanaar and on to Shadowglen.

Key Points on the Route to Teldrassil
| Point | What is there |
|---|---|
| Menethil Harbor | Boat to Auberdine |
| Auberdine | Boat to Rut'theran and back to Menethil Harbor, flight path |
| Rut'theran Village | Flight path, pier, portal to Darnassus |
| Darnassus | Night elf capital, trainers, bank, auction house |
| Dolanaar | Inn and quests for levels 5-10 |
| Shadowglen | Night elf starting glade |
Before a long trip, set your hearthstone at an inn you will definitely want to return to - Auberdine is a good choice, since both Menethil and Rut'theran are a short boat ride away.
◆Why Sail to Teldrassil
Night elves spend their first ten levels here - quests in order are listed in the Teldrassil leveling guide, and life in the capital is covered in the Darnassus city guide. Other Alliance races come for the capital's quests, the Darnassus vendors and the Rut'theran flight path that links the island with the rest of Kalimdor. After level 10 the road leads to Darkshore; to cut down on travel time, read the flight paths guide.

FAQ
?How does a human or dwarf get to Teldrassil?
Through Ironforge and the Wetlands: reach Menethil Harbor, take the boat to Auberdine in Darkshore, then a second boat to Rut'theran Village at the foot of Teldrassil. A portal in Rut'theran leads up to Darnassus.
?Is there a flight path in Darnassus?
No. In patch 1.12 the island's only flight master is in Rut'theran Village, and Darnassus is reached from there through the portal.
?Can the Horde get to Teldrassil?
Yes, but it is risky. The Horde has no transport of its own: you have to reach Auberdine in Darkshore and ride the same boat to Rut'theran as the Alliance. Alliance guards watch both ports.
?What level is Teldrassil?
It is the night elf starting zone for levels 1-10. There are no dungeons, and after level 10 players usually move on to Darkshore.
