How to Reach Ashenvale in WoW 1.12.1
How to get to Ashenvale is a question almost every Kalimdor character asks after level 18: this contested zone links the night elf lands with the Barrens, holds the Blackfathom Deeps dungeon and the Alliance entrance to Warsong Gulch. Ashenvale is a vast ancient forest, and each faction has its own strongholds inside it. Here are both routes for the WoW x5 server (Vanilla 1.12.1).

◆Where Ashenvale Is
Ashenvale lies in northern Kalimdor and borders five zones at once. To the north are Darkshore and Felwood, to the east, across the Southfury River, is Azshara, to the south are the Barrens, and to the southwest the Stonetalon Mountains. The recommended level is 18-30. Subzones and inhabitants of the forest are described in the Ashenvale article.
Key landmarks: Astranaar, the night elf town in the middle of the forest; Maestra's Post in the northwest near the Darkshore border; the Horde's Splintertree Post in the east; Zoram'gar Outpost on the Zoram Strand along the western coast; and the Warsong Lumber Camp in the far east.
How to Get to Ashenvale as Alliance
Night elves have the shortest trip: the zone starts right after Darkshore.
- From Darnassus, take the portal down to Rut'theran Village at the foot of Teldrassil.
- Fly by hippogryph or sail by boat to Auberdine in Darkshore.
- From Auberdine, follow the road south along the whole coast - Ashenvale begins at Maestra's Post.
- Follow the road east to Astranaar and discover the flight path.
Humans, dwarves and gnomes first have to reach Kalimdor: fly to Menethil Harbor in the Wetlands, take the boat to Auberdine and follow the same route. Once Astranaar is discovered, the hippogryph from Auberdine will take you straight to the heart of the forest.

How to Get to Ashenvale as Horde
For the Horde the forest starts north of the Barrens, but the first visit is on foot.
- From Orgrimmar or Thunder Bluff, fly by wind rider to the Crossroads in the Barrens. From Undercity, take the zeppelin to Orgrimmar first.
- From the Crossroads, follow the road north past the Mor'shan Rampart.
- The road leads into Ashenvale. Keep heading east and stay out of Astranaar - Alliance guards are posted there.
- Reach Splintertree Post and discover the flight path.
The second Horde flight path is Zoram'gar Outpost on the western coast. The easiest way there is from the Stonetalon Mountains through the Talondeep Path, then northwest to the sea. The way to the tunnel is covered in how to get to the Stonetalon Mountains.

Where the Entrances Are and What to Watch For
- The northern entrance is the road from Darkshore to Maestra's Post; the southern one is the road from the Barrens at the Mor'shan Rampart.
- The Talondeep Path leads in from the Stonetalon Mountains in the southwest, and the road past the Warsong Lumber Camp leads east into Azshara.
- A separate road heads north into Felwood - see how to get to Felwood.
- The Blackfathom Deeps entrance is in the northwestern corner of the Zoram Strand, right by the water. The way there is described in how to get to Blackfathom Deeps.
- The Alliance entrance to Warsong Gulch is in Silverwing Grove in the south of the forest; the Horde entrance is in the Barrens.

Routes to Ashenvale: Summary Table
| Step | Alliance | Horde |
|---|---|---|
| Start | Darnassus or Menethil Harbor | Orgrimmar or Thunder Bluff |
| Transport | Hippogryph or boat to Auberdine | Wind rider to the Crossroads |
| On foot | From Auberdine south to Maestra's Post | From the Crossroads north past the Mor'shan Rampart |
| Flight paths in the zone | Astranaar | Splintertree Post, Zoram'gar Outpost |
Ashenvale is contested territory: the roads between Astranaar and the Horde outposts see frequent skirmishes. Set your hearthstone at the nearest inn, and hunters and druids should use their speed abilities - Aspect of the Cheetah from level 20 and Travel Form from level 30.
◆Why Go to Ashenvale
It is one of the most quest-packed zones of its level range for both factions. The quest order is in the Ashenvale leveling guide, and dungeon tactics are on the Blackfathom Deeps page. The forest is also a convenient springboard: east to Azshara, north to Felwood. To save time on travel, read the flight paths guide.
