How to Reach the Wetlands in WoW 1.12.1
How to get to the Wetlands is a question every level 20-30 character faces once Loch Modan and Darkshore are done. The Wetlands are a misty marshland in northern Khaz Modan, and the main Alliance land route from Ironforge to Lordaeron runs right through them. Here are the routes for both factions on the WoW x5 server (Vanilla 1.12.1).

◆Where the Wetlands Are
The Wetlands lie in the Eastern Kingdoms between Loch Modan to the south and the Arathi Highlands to the north. Mountains close the zone off on three sides, while the west opens onto the sea at Baradin Bay. There are only two land entrances: the Dun Algaz tunnel in the south and the Thandol Span in the northeast. The recommended level is 20-30. Subzones and inhabitants are covered in the Wetlands article.
Key landmarks: Menethil Harbor with Menethil Keep on the west coast, the dwarven ruins of Dun Modr near the bridge in the north, Thelgen Rock, the Dragonmaw orc camp of Angerfang Encampment, and Grim Batol in the east.

How to Get to the Wetlands as Alliance
The Alliance has three options: on foot from Loch Modan, by boat from Kalimdor and, later on, by gryphon.
From Ironforge and Stormwind:
- From Stormwind, ride the Deeprun Tram to Ironforge. If you are new to the city, see the Ironforge city guide.
- Leave Ironforge heading east along the road and go through the mountain tunnel into Loch Modan. If you already have the Thelsamar flight path, simply fly there.
- From Thelsamar, follow the road north past Algaz Station.
- Go through the Dun Algaz tunnel - the Wetlands begin at the other end.
- Follow the road west to Menethil Harbor and talk to the gryphon master to discover the flight path.
By boat from Kalimdor. Night elves sail from Rut'theran Village to Auberdine and then take the boat straight to Menethil Harbor. A second boat runs from Theramore in Dustwallow Marsh - see how to get to Dustwallow Marsh.

How to Get to the Wetlands as Horde
The Horde has no flight path in the Wetlands in 1.12, and the only safe Horde entrance is from the north.
- From Orgrimmar, take the zeppelin to Tirisfal Glades and go down into Undercity.
- Make your way to Tarren Mill in Hillsbrad Foothills and head east into the Arathi Highlands.
- Discover the Hammerfall flight path - the Horde flight master closest to the Wetlands. The route is covered in detail in how to get to the Arathi Highlands.
- From Hammerfall, walk south to the edge of the zone and cross the gorge on the Thandol Span - one span of the bridge is broken, so use the intact one.
- The Wetlands begin on the other side. Keep away from Menethil Harbor: Alliance guards attack Horde players.
If you already have Kargath in the Badlands, you can also come in from the south through Loch Modan and the Dun Algaz tunnel, but dwarven guards stand watch at Algaz Station.
Where the Entrances Are and What to Watch For
- Dun Algaz is the southern gate of the zone: a tunnel through the rock between Loch Modan and the Wetlands that carries the main road.
- The Thandol Span is the northeastern entrance from the Arathi Highlands. Dun Modr next to it is held by Dark Iron dwarves, so do not linger on the bridge at low level.
- The Menethil Harbor docks are the zone's sea gate, with boats to Auberdine and Theramore.
- Grim Batol in the east is not an accessible dungeon in 1.12: elite level 60+ red dragons roam the Dragonmaw Gates. Despite a common mix-up, Gnomeregan is not here but in Dun Morogh.
- The coastal marshes belong to murlocs, and crocolisks hunt in the bogs - stick to the road at low level.

Routes to the Wetlands: Summary Table
| Step | Alliance | Horde |
|---|---|---|
| Start | Ironforge, Stormwind or Auberdine | Undercity or Orgrimmar |
| Transport | Gryphon to Thelsamar or boat to Menethil Harbor | Bat to Tarren Mill, then wind rider to Hammerfall |
| Zone entrance | Dun Algaz or the Menethil docks | Thandol Span |
| Closest flight path | Menethil Harbor | Hammerfall |
From Menethil Harbor, gryphons fly to Ironforge, Thelsamar, Southshore and Refuge Pointe. Set your hearthstone at the Menethil inn - it is a convenient base for both the Arathi Highlands and Kalimdor.
◆Why Go to the Wetlands
It is the main Alliance zone for levels 20-30: quests against the orcs of the Dragonmaw clan, Dark Iron dwarves at Dun Modr, gnolls and murlocs. The quest order is in the Wetlands leveling guide, and everything about the port town is in the Menethil Harbor guide. Miners will want to visit Thelgen Rock, the only place where Incendicite ore can be mined. To cut down on travel time, read the flight paths guide.

FAQ
?Where are the Wetlands?
In northern Khaz Modan in the Eastern Kingdoms: north of Loch Modan and south of the Arathi Highlands. The sea borders the zone to the west and mountains surround it on every other side. The recommended level is 20-30.
?Is there a Horde flight path in the Wetlands?
No. In patch 1.12 the only flight master in the zone is the Alliance gryphon master in Menethil Harbor. The Horde should fly to Hammerfall in the Arathi Highlands and walk south across the Thandol Span.
?Which boats sail to Menethil Harbor?
Two Alliance boats: one to Auberdine in Darkshore and one to Theramore in Dustwallow Marsh. The Auberdine boat is the fastest way into the Wetlands for night elves.
?Is there a dungeon in the Wetlands?
No, the zone has no instances. Gnomeregan is in Dun Morogh, and Grim Batol in the eastern Wetlands is closed in 1.12: elite level 60+ red dragons guard the Dragonmaw Gates.
