How to Reach the Deeprun Tram and Where the Entrances Are
How to get to the Deeprun Tram is one of the first questions new Alliance players ask on the WoW x5 server: the tram links two capitals, Stormwind and Ironforge, and saves a long trek across the mountains. The Deeprun Tram is a free gnomish railway under the mountains, part of which runs underwater. Here is where the entrances are, how to board and what to do along the way.

◆Where the Deeprun Tram is
The tram runs deep underground between Stormwind in Elwynn Forest and Ironforge in Dun Morogh. It is a small separate location with two stations, one under each city. Trains of several cars run between the stations on two parallel tracks, and the middle of the tunnel passes through an underground lake — you can see water and fish through the windows.
Character level does not matter: you can ride it at level one as long as you reach either capital.

How to get there as Alliance
From the Stormwind side:
- Enter Stormwind through the main gate from Elwynn Forest.
- Head to the Dwarven District in the north-east of the city.
- Find the large archway with gnomish machinery and walk down the tunnel to the station.
- Stand on the platform and wait for the cars — the tram arrives on its own and boarding is free.
From the Ironforge side:
- Pass through the main gate of Ironforge from Dun Morogh.
- Go to Tinker Town, the gnomish quarter of the city.
- Walk down the long tunnel to the station and board a car.
Night elves first have to sail from Auberdine to Menethil Harbor and walk to Ironforge — the route is described in how to get to Menethil Harbor and how to get to Ironforge. The road to Stormwind is covered in how to get to Stormwind.
How to get there as Horde
Horde has no normal access to the tram. Both entrances are hidden inside Alliance capitals, and reaching them means fighting through city guards. The cars themselves do not throw Horde players out, so rogues and raid-minded players sometimes sneak into a station for PvP, but as a way to travel the tram is useless to the Horde. Horde travel options are better found in the flight paths guide.
Where the entrance is and how not to get lost
- Stormwind: the entrance is in the Dwarven District, next to the district workshops and forges. If you get lost, ask a city guard — he will mark the spot on your map.
- Ironforge: the entrance is in Tinker Town. The tunnel is quite long and slopes down, that is normal.
- Each station has two platforms, one per track. It does not matter which one you pick: both trains shuttle between the cities.
- On the Ironforge side you will find the gnome Monty at the station, «Rat Extermination Specialist». He offers a short chain of two quests: Deeprun Rat Roundup and Me Brother, Nipsy. Nipsy waits for you at the Stormwind station and sells rat kabobs.

For the first quest Monty hands you a flute — use it to charm five rats and lead them back to him:
Route table
| Route | Alliance | Horde |
|---|---|---|
| Stormwind entrance | Dwarven District | Only through a hostile city |
| Ironforge entrance | Tinker Town | Only through a hostile city |
| Fare | Free | Free, but access is risky |
| Station quests | Monty and Nipsy | None |
| Alternative | Gryphon flight or mage teleport | Not needed |
◆Why ride the Deeprun Tram
The tram is the fastest way to move between the two main Alliance capitals without a flight path. It is especially handy at low levels: dwarves and gnomes reach Stormwind for its trainers and auction house, while humans reach Ironforge for its vendors and professions. What each city offers is covered in the Stormwind city guide and the Ironforge city guide.
While you ride, the Monty and Nipsy quests give a bit of experience and ten rat kabobs — decent food for the first levels. Mages can skip the tram altogether: in 1.12 they have teleports to both capitals.

FAQ
?Where is the Deeprun Tram entrance in Stormwind?
In the Dwarven District in the north-east of Stormwind. Look for the big gnomish archway leading into a tunnel among the district workshops.
?Where is the Deeprun Tram entrance in Ironforge?
In Tinker Town, the gnomish quarter of Ironforge. A long tunnel leads down from there to the tram platforms.
?Does the Deeprun Tram cost money?
No, the tram is free. Just stand on the platform, wait for the cars and step inside — no tickets or boarding NPCs are needed.
?Can Horde ride the Deeprun Tram?
Technically the cars do not refuse anyone, but both entrances are inside Alliance capitals full of guards. For Horde it is a risky raid, not a way to travel.
