How to Reach Ironforge in WoW 1.12.1
How to get to Ironforge is a question for humans, night elves and anyone who needs the dwarven capital with its auction house, the Great Forge and a flight path in the heart of Khaz Modan. Ironforge is carved right into a mountain in the middle of snowy Dun Morogh, and there are only two ways inside. Here is each of them on the WoW x5 server (Vanilla 1.12.1): for every Alliance race and, honestly, for the Horde.

◆Where Is Ironforge
Ironforge stands in the mountains of Khaz Modan, in central Dun Morogh in the north of the Eastern Kingdoms. The whole city lies inside the mountain: from outside you only see the gates and the stone buildings on the slope. Around it lies the dwarf and gnome starting zone for levels 1-10, with Loch Modan to the east and the Wetlands beyond the ridges to the north. City history is on the Ironforge page, and the district map is in the Ironforge city guide.

How to Get to Ironforge as Alliance
Dwarves and Gnomes
- New characters appear in Coldridge Valley next to Anvilmar.
- Go through Coldridge Pass to the village of Kharanos.
- From Kharanos follow the winding road north and uphill - it leads to the Gates of Ironforge.
More about the zone is in how to get to Dun Morogh.
Humans
- In Stormwind go to the Dwarven District.
- Board the Deeprun Tram - the ride is free.
- The tram arrives in Tinker Town inside Ironforge.
Night Elves
- From Rut'theran Village take the ship to Auberdine in Darkshore.
- From Auberdine take the ship to Menethil Harbor in the Wetlands.
- Walk southeast through the Dun Algaz gorge into Loch Modan.
- In Loch Modan turn west to the North Gate Pass or South Gate Pass tunnels and come out in Dun Morogh.
- Go past Kharanos and north to the Gates of Ironforge.
If you have already discovered the Ironforge flight path, you can fly there by gryphon from Menethil Harbor. All routes are in the world travel guide.
How to Get to Ironforge as Horde
For the Horde, Ironforge is a fortified enemy capital. Alliance guards protect the gates and the roads of Dun Morogh, and inside, in the throne room, sits King Magni Bronzebeard with his elite guard. A lone player cannot get through, so the Horde comes only in raids. Routes to Dun Morogh:
- Through the Wetlands: from Undercity south through Hillsbrad Foothills and the Arathi Highlands, across Thandol Span into the Wetlands, then through the Dun Algaz gorge into Loch Modan.
- Through the Badlands: from the Kargath flight path north into Loch Modan - the route is described in how to get to Loch Modan.
From Loch Modan go west through the tunnels and keep away from Thelsamar and the gate outposts. There is no back way into the city: you can only enter through the gates or the tram.
Where Is the City Entrance
In 1.12 Ironforge has two entrances:
- The Gates of Ironforge - massive doors in the mountainside above Kharanos. Behind them lie The Commons and then The Great Forge, where the gryphon flight path is.
- The Deeprun Tram from Stormwind - it arrives in Tinker Town.

The bank, auction house and trainers are described in the Ironforge city guide - this page is about navigation only.

◆Hearthstone and Why Go to Ironforge
Ironforge is a popular home location: it is close to Gnomeregan, Loch Modan and the Wetlands. Set your Hearthstone at the innkeeper, and the trip back takes one click once an hour.
Alliance mages can teleport to Ironforge on their own from level 20.
Next to the city is the Gnomeregan dungeon for groups in their mid-to-late twenties and above. Dwarves and gnomes can start with the Dun Morogh leveling guide. To return to the capital quickly, discover the flight path here - details are in the flight paths guide.
