Icecrown: the Lich King's glacier

◆A glacier at the heart of the north

Icecrown is a colossal expanse of eternal ice deep within Northrend. Endless blizzards rage here, and the bones of fallen armies that besieged the Lich King's throne for centuries jut from the snow.

◆The Frozen Throne

At the glacier's summit stands the Frozen Throne — a block of ice into which Kil'jaeden sealed the spirit of Ner'zhul. From here the Lich King's will telepathically commands the entire Scourge.

◆Frostmourne

It was from the Frozen Throne that the cursed runeblade Frostmourne was cast out into the world. It waited for one who would take it up — and that hero, to his doom, was Prince Arthas.

◆Stronghold of the undead

Around Icecrown the Scourge raised citadels, necropolises and forges of abominations. From here marched the armies that ravaged Quel'Thalas and Lordaeron and raised Naxxramas.

◆Icecrown in the Vanilla era

In classic WoW the glacier itself is inaccessible, but its influence is felt everywhere: every creature of the Scourge in the Eastern Plaguelands serves the throne in Icecrown.

◆Why this matters

Icecrown is the source of the entire undead threat. Understanding where the Scourge comes from makes the Vanilla heroes' struggle against Kel'Thuzad in Naxxramas hit harder.
