The Midsummer Fire Festival is a summer event in WoW Classic dedicated to bonfires and ancient traditions of Azeroth. Players light and guard their faction's sacred fires while enemies try to extinguish them.
When the Event Runs
The Fire Festival lasts about two weeks in midsummer. During this period throughout Azeroth:
- Alliance and Horde bonfires appear near major cities
- Festival priests and vendors arrive
- Event boss — Lord Ahune appears in the Fire Caverns

Bonfires Across Azeroth
Alliance bonfires are located near major cities:
- Elwynn Forest — near Stormwind gates
- Dun Morogh — near Ironforge
- Teldrassil — near Darnassus shores
- Ashenvale, Feralas, Un'Goro and other zones
Horde bonfires:
- Durotar — near Orgrimmar
- Mulgore — near Thunder Bluff
- Tirisfal Glades — near Undercity
- Zones: Barrens, Stranglethorn, Silithus and others
Desecrating enemy bonfires gives twice as many Burning Blossoms as honoring your own. But enemies may be defending their bonfires!
Lord Ahune
Lord Ahune is the sole boss of the Fire Festival. He appears in the Fire Caverns instance (entrance near Shadowfang Keep).
Mechanics:
- Summons fire guardians every 30–45 seconds
- Bonfires of Eternal Spring — periodic burns
- Shards of the Flame — fire projectiles at random players
Lord Ahune drops:
- Summer Necklace (unique rings and amulets)
- Festive costumes
Burning Blossoms and Event Currency
Burning Blossoms are the primary currency of the Fire Festival. Spent at festival vendors on:
- Festive food recipes
- Cosmetic items
- Torches and fireworks
Be sure to complete all event quest chains — some grant unique experience and Blossoms that cannot be obtained otherwise.

The History of the Fire Festival in WoW Lore
According to Warcraft lore bonfires are lit in honor of ancient fire spirits that once protected Azeroth. Night Elves and Tauren remember these rituals longer than other races but the tradition unites all peoples of the Alliance and Horde.
The Fire Festival is one of the few events where both factions actively interact: Alliance tries to extinguish Horde bonfires and Horde tries to extinguish Alliance bonfires. This creates a unique PvP atmosphere even on PvE servers.
Tips for Beginners
If you are participating in the Fire Festival for the first time — start by visiting all of your faction's bonfires in starter zones. This will give you a basic supply of Burning Blossoms for first purchases from vendors as well as decent experience for characters below level 60.
