History of Orcs: From Draenor Shamans to the Free Horde

Orcs are the most recognizable people of the Horde. Their path is a story of falling into the slavery of corruption and a painful return to honor. The orcs' homeland is not Azeroth at all, but the distant red world of Draenor.
The Shamanic People of Draenor
Originally the orcs were shamans living in harmony with the spirits of the elements and ancestors. Their society was divided into clans — Frostwolf, Blackrock, Warsong, Bleeding Hollow and others. Life was harsh but honorable: hunting, rituals and respect for nature.
Enslavement by the Burning Legion
Everything changed with the warlock Gul'dan and his Shadow Council. At the Burning Legion's bidding he led the clans to abandon shamanism for dark magic. The climax was a pact with the demon Mannoroth: by drinking his blood the orcs fell under a demonic blood curse. Their skin turned green, their eyes burned, and their minds were seized by an unquenchable thirst for war.
The Wars Against Azeroth
The possessed Horde poured through the Dark Portal in the First War and burned Stormwind. In the Second War it reached Lordaeron but was defeated by the Alliance. The orcs' world collapsed: the demonic energy faded and the clans lost their strength.

Camps and Apathy
After defeat, thousands of orcs ended up in internment camps across Lordaeron. Stripped of the corruption, they fell into apathy — it seemed the proud people had faded forever.
Liberation Under Thrall
Hope returned through Thrall, son of chieftain Durotan, raised in human bondage. He escaped, found the old warrior Eitrigg and the wisdom of ancient shamanism, freed the clans from the camps and lifted the demonic curse. The new Horde sailed to Kalimdor, where it founded Durotar and the capital Orgrimmar. Its allies became the Darkspear trolls and the tauren.
