Thunderfury, Blessed Blade of the Windseeker
Vanilla WoW Classic 1.12 · x5 realm · wowx5.ruThunderfury, Blessed Blade of the Windseeker is the only legendary weapon from Molten Core and one of the most iconic items in WoW Vanilla. The sword opens an epic quest chain requiring the rarest fragments from two elemental bosses, rare crafting materials, and a summoning ritual in Silithus.
Weapon Stats
Thunderfury is a one-handed sword with a unique proc ability: roughly 8% chance on hit to strike the target with a Thunderfury bolt (and up to 5 nearby enemies), reducing their Nature resistance by 5 and dealing Nature damage. For a warrior tank this is an invaluable multi-target threat tool — which is why the sword is especially prized in Molten Core raid compositions.
Stats:
- Type: One-hand sword, 1.9 speed
- DPS: 53.3
- Bonus: +5 Agility, +5 Stamina, +30 Nature Resistance
- Proc: 8% chance — bolt deals 300 Nature damage, reduces target's and 4 nearby enemies' Nature resistance by 5 for 12 sec (stackable)
Quest Chain: Step-by-Step Guide
Step 1: Obtaining the Bindings
To begin the quest chain you need two items:
Binding of the Windseeker (Left) — drops from Garr in Molten Core. Approx. 3% drop rate, Warriors only. Bind on Pickup, cannot be traded.
Binding of the Windseeker (Right) — drops from Baron Geddon in Molten Core. Same ~3% rate, also BoP.
On the x5 server raid speed is higher, so collecting both bindings within 2–4 weeks of regular clears is realistic. Both bindings can sit in your bank — the quest activates when you have both.
Step 2: Starting the Quest Chain
With both bindings in your inventory, Prince Thunderaan (a ghost hovering above the Vortex Pinnacle in Silithus) summons you. He combines both Bindings into the Essence of the Firelord.
Quest "Thunderaan the Windseeker" sends you to Prince Thunderaan in Silithus. To complete it you must gather:
| Material | Amount | Where to Get |
|---|---|---|
| Elementium Ore | 10 | Molten Core smiths (lootable from named mobs) |
| Fiery Core | 10 | Molten Core (drops from fire elementals) |
| Lava Core | 10 | Molten Core (drops from lava elementals) |
Step 3: Forging the Ring
With the materials in hand, visit Master Craftsman Tognus Flintee or a raid blacksmith. They craft the Bindings of the Windseeker.
Step 4: The Final Ritual
With Essence of the Firelord + Bindings, head to the Vortex Pinnacle (Silithus) and summon Thunderaan. This spawns a whirlwind event — a 40-person raid must slay the surrounding elemental bosses. An epic guild-coordination event.
After defeating all elementals, Prince Thunderaan falls and you receive Thunderfury, Blessed Blade of the Windseeker.
Farming Route in Molten Core
Bindings drop exclusively from two bosses:
- Garr — 5th–6th boss in MC (route-dependent). Add management required. Left Binding drops only here.
- Baron Geddon — 8th boss in MC. Harder adds, needs solid DPS. Right Binding drops only here.
Never skip these bosses in any clear — drop rate is low but consistent farming pays off.
Tips for the x5 Server
On WowX5 x5 rates, elemental materials (Fiery Core, Lava Core) farm significantly faster than on Blizzard servers. Elementium Ore is a rare drop from named smiths but can also be purchased from players. Organize regular MC clears — Thunderfury is achievable within about a month.
