Sulfuras, Hand of Ragnaros

Vanilla WoW Classic 1.12 · x5 realm · wowx5.ru

Sulfuras, Hand of Ragnaros is the legendary two-handed mace of WoW Vanilla — the smouldering weapon of the Firelord. It is one of the earliest legendaries available on the server and a landmark trophy for any guild clearing Molten Core.

Weapon stats

Sulfuras is a slow two-handed mace with high damage per swing and a permanent fire aura that damages nearby enemies. Visually it is a blazing artefact wreathed in smoke — one of the most recognisable looks in Classic.

Stats:

  • Type: two-handed mace, speed 3.7
  • Damage: high per hit plus elemental fire
  • Bonuses: +Strength, deals fire damage around the wielder
  • Special: permanent aura that burns nearby foes

How to build it: step by step

Building Sulfuras has two independent halves that are then combined.

Step 1: Sulfuron Hammer

The base is the epic Sulfuron Hammer, crafted by a blacksmith who has learned Plans: Sulfuron Hammer (drops in Molten Core). Crafting needs rare materials.

Sulfuron Ingot8Drops from Molten Core bosses
Dark Iron Bar20Smelting dark iron ore (BRD)

Step 2: Eye of Sulfuras

The second component is the Eye of Sulfuras, which drops from Ragnaros himself. Applying the Eye to a finished Sulfuron Hammer turns it into the legendary Sulfuras, Hand of Ragnaros.

Tip

On an x5 server dark iron smelting and core farming go faster — start gathering Sulfuron Ingots and Dark Iron early so the hammer is ready when the Eye drops.

Who should build it

Sulfuras is primarily a prestige item: its pure DPS loses to later two-handers, but it remains a collector's dream and is useful for a bear druid thanks to strength and the flame aura for threat. The path runs through a full clear of Molten Core and killing Ragnaros.

Farming tactics on x5

Sulfuras is a marathon of two parallel tasks, so split the effort in advance. While the raid farms the Eye from Ragnaros each week, your blacksmith calmly gathers Sulfuron Ingots from Molten Core bosses and smelts dark iron bars in Blackrock Depths. On an x5 server ore and core farming is noticeably faster than on classic realms, cutting the overall timeline to one or two months.

A few practical tips:

  • Keep a dedicated bank tab for legendary materials — Fiery Core and Lava Core are also used in other recipes and are easy to spend by accident.
  • Agree with your guild that the Eye of Sulfuras is reserved for a specific player: splitting the drop between rivals drags assembly out for months.
  • Level a blacksmith with the Sulfuron Hammer plans in advance so the hammer is ready for the final combine the moment the Eye drops.

This approach turns a random drop into a predictable project and lets you claim one of the server's first legendaries as fast as possible.

FAQ

Which classes use Sulfuras?

The two-handed mace with fire damage is technically usable by any class, but its raw DPS trails top raid two-handers. Its value is prestige and for a bear-form druid tank.

Where does the Eye of Sulfuras drop?

The Eye of Sulfuras drops from Ragnaros in Molten Core at roughly a 3–5% chance. On an x5 server with weekly MC clears it is realistic within 1–2 months.

Do I need a profession to build it?

The final step is applying the Eye to the Sulfuron Hammer. The Sulfuron Hammer itself is crafted by a blacksmith with plans from Molten Core using dark iron bars, cores and lava.
