Effect and stats
| Property | Value |
|---|---|
| Effect | +2% critical strike chance |
| Type | Temporary weapon buff |
| Weapon | Edged (sword/axe/dagger), not maces |
| Duration | 1 hour |
| On death | NOT removed |
| Source | Blacksmithing craft |
How to obtain
Crafted by blacksmiths from elemental reagents (Essence of Fire/Water/Earth), so pricier than common stones. Sold on the auction house. Not for blunt weapons (maces/staves) — those use Dense Sharpening Stone or weightstones.
x5 tip: +2% crit is especially valuable to classes with on-crit effects: Rogues (Seal Fate combo points), Warriors (Flurry, Impale). On x5 it's a noticeable raid-long DPS gain.
Who needs it and where
Warriors, Rogues, and Hunters (melee) using edged weapons want it. Crit scales damage and triggers talents, making it a BiS consumable. See the rogue BiS guide.
How it compares
For blunt weapons use Dense Sharpening Stone. Against undead (Naxxramas) the Consecrated Sharpening Stone is stronger.

FAQ
Which weapons does it work on?
Only edged weapons (swords, axes, daggers, polearms). Maces and staves (blunt) need a weightstone or [Dense Sharpening Stone](/en/wiki/dense-sharpening-stone).
+2% crit or +8 damage — which is better?
For most high-skill DPS with crit-scaling talents (Seal Fate, Impale, Flurry), +2% crit usually beats flat damage.
Does the stone persist through death?
Yes — like all weapon buffs it survives death, which is great on progression bosses.
